Feels like it's everyone except Ronaldo and Costa swapped?

FBs, midfield, keepers, wide players are all much better. I would take this squad over those teams any day.

This is the deepest team Portugal has taken to the WC, and it's not as good as it could be either.

for sure I am just looking at winning the whole thing they are competent players.
you inspired me by saying Inacio is ass! lol when you are good enough to win the whole thing minor flaws are all we can point to.

the fact the entire team was subbed at half time except for our 41yr old is wild

I just wish Ronaldo had this team in his prime. We would be definitively the #1 favorite for the trophy. Then again, many of these players were inspired by Ronaldo so it's also something that simply couldn't have happened, to a degree.

Ronaldo was shit in that first half, and yet he still gets to stay on instead of experimenting with something else. Ridiculous man.

Wide players? Figo? but yes this is the single best Portuguese team ever because the midfield is completely absurd. I said well rounded just because there is no Pauleta and the CBs are not as good.

To me 2000-06 were they were an absurdly good team. They did not lose many matches in 90 minutes.
I would take Rui Costa Figo Deco over Bruno Bernardo Felix/Leao.

This team is definitively above any other because of the midfield specifically. That is where games are won and lost, in general. The attack is key but look at Argentina's 2010 World Cup options. They literally had more talent in that one squad, attacking-wise, than Portugal has had in their entire history. Aguero, Higuain, Tevez, Messi, Milito fresh from crushing the Champions League and barely a squad player. Friggin absurd.

Pepe Ronaldo plus Vitinha Joa Neves Mendes would have won in 14/18 even. The rest don't matter as much. To have 5 genuine world class world 11 players in one squad would be too much to handle.

Suddenly joao Neves and Vitinha look nothing special as a midfield when paired with Bruno. Shocker.

BIggest fraud in the sport. Never been apart of a dominant midfield in his entire career, not even at sporting. Counter attacking long ball spammer who requires two DMs to cover for his poor poisoning and defence.

Yes the Argentina defence and midfield in 2010 were very very mediocre as was their keeper. If they had their 2002 2006 midfield/defence they would have won. You can only play so many attackers at once.

You need a top class midfield defence and keeper. Not world class but top class. CF of course is important but it has been done a few times where someone does a job or just catches form at CF even if they are not a top 5 CF in the world.

Did anyone else see that ESPN prediction that had Portugal last in the group and losing to Congo. How much of a ********ing loser do you need to be to need clicks for your article to write some bullshit like that. Dude who wrote it should have his computer confiscated and thrown in prison.

Really nice part of his game when he cuts in and does that.

Exactly the sort of shooting skill we'll need when teams bunker against us

Good goal, Chico. My dad likes to say he's so small he can walk between the other players' legs lmao

Mendes lasted 30 minutes, not great indicator - but baby steps I guess.

With how our draw is we don't need to rush him back for the first two matches anyway
