Seems the players are more comfortable with not overlooking for him anymore.

its the main flaw in the squad outside of the CF position where there won't be any pressing.
it is very hard to win a world cup without two top quality CBs. As much as it's said that Portugal is better now than in the 90s that golden generation was more well rounded in terms of positional depth.

Im not sure why but when you consider that Pepe came from the Brazilian system since the days of Couto and Carvalho Ruben Dias is the only top quality centre back that has been produced in the last 20 years.

I would rather see Veiga in there than Inacio

    No it wasn't.

Every post of yours is a veiled backhanded compliment against Portugal too. Go back to coping in the Italy sub.

Veiga will start over Inacio. He’s more combative, quicker and plays in Spain. But you are right have to have to solid world class CBs. However I was surprised that Rueben didn’t dive for that shot. Maybe afraid to injure himself?

Neto has to give better quality ball when he has the ball at his feet. Nice goal but we need more from him.

I have Portugal or England winning the world cup. I think Vitinha Neves Bruno are in the best 11 of the tournament to start with not another midfielder getting in from any nation.

And yes the teams from 98-2006 were more well rounded. Couto Carvalho Costa were all top quality CBs. The midfield production over the last decade has been absurd but the CBs and CFs have not been produced at a comparable rate.

    No need to be defensive.
    These are logical observations.

Ronaldo with a simple miss early on. That kind of shit can’t happen next week. Maybe Guedes/Ramos would have slotted that early opportunity? Nigeria are no pushovers. Physically strong team. We need more calm in the final third.

Bruh, you can't just group together 98-2006. 98 was a literally different team entirely from 2006. Couto and Costa were never at Carvalho's level. The latter was definitively world-class, the former two were just very good.

I blame Ferro for that great half season at Benfica and then turning straight ass. Antonio Silva following in his footsteps. Ruben Dias must have poisoned the water at Seixal on his way out.

Chelsea haven’t exactly had a great season. Palmer lost his spot in the WC. Who would have thought that after his goal in last the Euro Final. Hopefully Alonso gets more out of Neto.

Yes but better than Viega Inacio Fonte or having to use an old Bruno Alves.
My point was that the last 20 years only Ruben has been produced by the Portuguese system so I am talking about a generation and a half which is why I compared 98-2006. You could stretch it even further and make the point even more. If one CB is world class/top class they can usually carry a lesser defender but it can be a tight rope if the other is too flawed.

I mean, Fonte was a starter in a European Championship win. Bruno Alves was also quite good in his prime.

I get your point but Ruben Dias is also a rather unfair standard. He is like 1 of 2 CBs to ever win EPL Player of the Year. That's a high tier within world-class.

But yes, we should have better CBs but Veiga could be good enough. Starting CB for a Top 4 team in La Liga is a very good level.

I think if this was a competitive match Inacio would have fouled him and taken the yellow. It all seemed like Portugal just accepted the goal, shrugged and moved on. As I said Ruben had a chance to dive against the shot. Just very casual defending by both CBs.
