Tomorrow's resale portal really will make everyone who didn't buy USA/Mexico tickets to flip for instant profit kick themselves. I assume every one of those that hits the portal to be snatched up.
Agree with your first point. I assume tomorrow's resellers won't repeat FIFA's mistake...should be plenty of USA/Mexico tickets at double the price offered today. (Triple for that Guadalajara mis-price.) $1600 for a Cat1 L.A. game is a bit steep, especially given recent performance. But you'd be a fool to list for much less at this point. What would you price the Cat2 for Match Day 3? $605 list price, right? $1K? $1500 seems extreme?
Actually, I think FIFA overpriced just about everything. Even those Category 4 tickets when you consider the size of the stadiums and that those seats will basically be the last 3-5 rows near the corner, barely inside the stadium. Category 4 tickets in Qatar were not that bad (starting about halfway up behind the goal). In the past, FIFA set the floor for ticket prices. This time, I think they set the ceiling. I expect for most matches, we will eventually see the resellers having to resort to undercutting FIFA, unless FIFA really drops their prices at least before the FCFS phases. The norms from the past don’t really apply here. And I would be happy to see the scalpers take losses.
If the resale portal opens with a CAT 3-4 final ticket being sold for 5k USD - do you buy it? Yes or no? I guess only time will tell if it was a good purchase - depending if the final involves Brazil/Argentina or a nation with low support like France/Spain
France and Spain will still be very expensive. People with money in New York (and in general) would want to see stars like Mbappé and Yamal.
It is totally different levels of demand though. You could sellout the stadium many times over to passionate fans or you are selling to rich New Yorkers.
Not only rich New Yorkers but rich people in general who want to see The guy who has arguably been the best player in the last two World Cups against the new kid on the block who wants to be a great player in a World Cup. Tickets will be tough to get. OF course not as tough as other match ups but still very tough.
I think they will be very easy to get using the current model. They will just be really expensive. England have plenty of rich passionate fans so if they reach the final prices will still go up. The Argentinians will sell their cars etc if needs be. I do appreciate the different cultures and people can be fans of a player which is still pretty alien to most of us in Europe. I still think if we end up with 2 of France/Portugal or Spain in the final demand will drop considerably. Even with a global superstar in each lineup i can't see the crazy high prices being maintained.
It is the American way. Why do you think Fantasy sports is booming? I hate it but fans are becoming more fans of individuals and their accomplishments instead of the teams. Especially here in the USA trying to ride the plastic bandwagon and become clout chasers. I think demand will be pretty much the same.
This was a problem in Qatar too with lots of fans of Messi (not Argentina) from Asia mostly, cheering only when Messi was on the ball. We met 2 Japanese girls on the shuttle bus to the Final who both had France colors painted on one cheek and Argentina colors on the other. When we asked who they were rooting for, they told us they were only there to see Julian Alvarez and Mbappe. It is supposed to be a team sport but it is becoming a celebrity exhibition.
If you want to have a laugh (or get angry), take a look at the projected ticket prices in the winning bid book for the 2026 World Cup (the projected ticket prices are on page 490 of 530): https://inside.fifa.com/tournaments...s/2026-fifa-world-cup-bid-books-now-available The most expensive ticket is, of course, a Category 1 ticket to the Final: $1,550. So, how did we get from that to $6,730?
In my opinion, that would be insane at this point. There will be a lot of other opportunities to buy at face value and even face value may drop before the tournament. Also, those Cat 3 and 4 tickets are really bad this time. I am sticking to Cat 1 this time, but prices need to drop and I think they will.
I got round 32 tickets for Boston and NY. Boston 2 tickets 360 each. Was given no option. Only ticket # and thats the only price they had. NY was 460 again no other option. I was going to buy group stage tickets but could not justify paying 350 or 460 for group stage in Boston or 450/610 for group stage in NY without knowing the teams At that point I would prefer to pay $800+ pre ticket and see the team I actually want to see Are these official prices? or 2nd hand these are ridiculous prices. When I was looking at all the tickets checked Phili as well and the prices are just insane to not be resale amounts.
