Yes I know that a red card for Argentina counts against a 'conspiracy theory' or so but nonetheless, officiating has again helped Argentina in this game more than once.
I think the game turned once the ref started whistling Argentina for all the cheap shots. For a team that has so many admirable qualities, they are absolutely insufferable.
Better team won and deservedly so. Up to the 2nd hydration water break, I don't think Argentina had one shot on goal. "“If you have the ball, it is impossible for the other team to score” – Johan Cruyff.
This is a criticism you can actually also raise to Spain. Throughout this tournament they haven't been great in creating clear-cut chances.
Spain played to win. Deserved the victory. And how about that suffocating defense… only 1 goal conceded in the whole tournament
Maybe overall, but they created tons of chances today. If they'd finished better they could have had 2-3 goals, imo.
29759 This was a shit final with one participant, Argentinia, that showed they had no business being in the final, but being carried by FIFA into it and the other participant, Spain, being a sterile, boring team. UEFA should punish this ref with taking him off the list for any UEFA matches.
The Netherlands are the winners of the FIFA Fair Play Award presented by @mcdonalds 🤝🏆 pic.twitter.com/n1XirS0q9m— FIFA World Cup (@FIFAWorldCup) July 19, 2026 Huh!
Apparently you receive some money for this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup_awards#FIFA_Fair_Play_Trophy Money that you can spend on development. Thank you FIFA (we are still net payers though)
and Argentina won the best Oscar for World Cup 2026 Spain probably deserves this Fair Play Award as well (they lost probably because of Yamal's acting).
For as good as they are, and as admirable as their fighting qualities are, they are a bunch of clowns and I'm glad Spain won.
