James has a proven track record of 120+ games with Colombia. I don’t think you can compare an unproven talent with James… Monslave hasn’t played a full 90 minute game since May 2025. Sorry if I wasn’t clear.
Monsalve is on the prelist and I think he was on the prelist last year. I want him actually called up. Hopefully that happens before the year is over.
Edwin Cetre on the right is someone that should be called too. One of the best wingers in the argie league, Diaz - Suarez - Cetre
Yeah I feel that we are well enough depth wise with the FW section; the midfield is my number 1 concern in terms of depth.
We have a lot of guys who play right wing primarily or can play right wing on occasion. I put Centre into that ambipedalism catigory of players who seem to get played on both sides of the field depending on tactics and the managing style. Guys like Serna, Gomez, Marino and Enamorado.
this is why the league needs to be scouted by the NT coach. Cetre was a good player with potential in the league but until he went to Argentina no one gave him any thoughts. we just have so many wingers and the coach isn't going to call up more than 30 guys. This is vs France/Croatia so we will try to bring the best guys possible with very few "new guys sadly" the next games maybe he tries out a few more players and hopefully Duran gets his shit together and gets his final shot but the 26 everyone thinks is in the World Cup final will be the final 26 baring injuries or the chosen one coming from heaven and leading us to greatness biggest surprises that would instantly make us better is Mosquera accepts Colombia(doubtful) and Duran gets his shit together(doubtful). Then it's Puerta/Castano/Portilla. Campaz/Carbonero/Gomez or Carrascal and finally Borre/Falcao/Duran/Cucho/Daryo...
I will pencil in Cristhian Mosquera for Copa America 2028 if we are lucky and he determines he is not Spanish anymore. Duran is in a very bad position in Russia. I remember reading that Cassierra did not like being called up for the National team cause it took like 17 hours to get to Colombia. Then he had to travel to the actual countries Colombia was playing in only to sit on the bench. Duran probably would hate that too. And of course he is not scoring right now. And if he does play he gets too many cards and acts like a villain. All of that is stacked up against him right now. The Puerta/Castano/Portilla battle is going to be a good one. I think two of the those three will make the roster. But it could be only one of those three. Campaz/Carbonero/Gomez is a battle. Carrascal will probably not be in this group of players being decided upon. Campaz has barely played at Rosario since Di Maria got there. Mostly due to injury so I think he is in a bad position. Gomez has been called up but Lorenzo never plays him. Other than against Uruguay in Montevideo in which he scored. Carbonero has played a couple of matches last fall and scored in both appearances. That should be acknowledged and rewarded but it probably won't be a factor. Borre/Falcao/Duran/Cucho/Dayro is not really a competition. Borre is going to be on the roster with the way he is playing in Brasil. The other guys are probably not going to go unless Cucho starts scoring again in Spain consistently. And even then he may not go.
No one gave him thoughts because he was not good enough. When he was playing for Junior he was good. But he was not Senior National team level good. He was called up for the U23 and looked okay.
- not holding my breath for Mosquera for any future Colombia tournament - Duran: with with his club career becoming a circus the past 12 months, it's a damn shame he's at where his is at. is it his fault or his agent's? At least James had solid runs with Porto and Monaco before his club career started going sideways... - Puerta: plays in second division....my biggest gripe. - Castano: i've had minimal complaints anytime he plays for Colombia, but his 2026 club performances have been minimal... - Portilla: seems to be playing regularly at the club level. Similar to Castano - i've had minimal issues with him in the yellow shirt. if Nestor calls both him and Castano to the world cup, i wonder if we will see Triple/Quadruple cinco formations... - Campaz: I don't dislike him, but i feel like Carbonero and Gomez are better options. If anyone deserves the FIFA peace prize, it should be Carbonero for being able to get assists and turning Borre into a scoring striker =) - Falcao / Dayro: for a 30-man roster, sure...for a 26-man roster, I don't see how they fit with Suarez, Borre, Cordoba as the primary strikers, especially since we play with a lone striker....if we were to start using a 2-striker formation...
Which is worse though? Being on the bench, barely getting minutes at River and not having the trust of his club manager or starting every day and getting many minutes in the second tier of Spain? We may see the answer to that soon.
By the way Racing is a very good team in the second division. Their manager is being praised for his unorthodox tactics and unique offensive style of futbol. The DFMs are crucial and Puerta is doing well in his role.
on the Duran thing.... bro mental instability is worst than Falcaos knee injury. Like Falcao was actively killing himself to be ready for 2014 WC. Duran god only knows what's in his pea sized brain right now
not only is he emotionally unstable but his agent is some colombianito hungry for dough.. giving him bad advice left and right for extra $$
outside of James we have never had a 20 year old playing at that type of level with that ceiling before many of you are still on the Yaser or Quintero train but fully write Duran off. I just don't understand how we can do that.... people are crying over Cristian Mosquera not wanting to play for us.... but Duran at Villa pretty much was only rivaled by James at Porto. Falcao was way way older at Porto at 23. this kid is going to go the way of Juan Pablo Pino who had moments of brilliance in youth level just again was a basket case with terrible agents
Yaser or Quintero or even Pino didnt have as many behavioral issues as him.. his problem is that he has issues even his own team and staff. cancerous. could he make a come back? sure everyone deserves a chance. am i holding my breath? nope.
You are not incorrect. He has issues. That said, he has played in 17 matches for Colombia and has been called up a bunch more games and not played. There have been rumors of him misbehaving and being bad in the locker room for Colombia but those were just hearsay and unsubstantiated claims. For the most part in Yellow he has played well, and has behaved outside of some yellow cards suspensions. So that is why I personally think he may be getting the short end of the stick here by many fans and media guys. But yes, he has his club reputation and an agent that he cannot be blameless for. Those are bad decisions. The more time goes by the more it seems like he just does not get it. Or worse, he just does not care.
I agree. I wanted Yaser to start but he is not playing much in Turkey. Maybe Gomez deserves a go. Or maybe Serna again.
Let me start this off by saying he has been important for us this cycle, especially the beginning of the cycle as starter. However, he does not seem to be the same player the closer we get to the World Cup. We have played without him as starter against Venezuela and Argentina and done fine. I actually liked him coming in as a sub in those matches. Mexico sucks but we destroyed them when he was on the bench. Yaser looked better than him when he started against Australia. Or at least looked more dangerous. So based on that having him start is not as crucial as one might think. But you are correct, he is gaining back his form at Palmeiras ; I would not be concerned with him starting. I just want to see what the other guys can do who seem to be playing better at the moment.
