If Barrera were a starter at Botafogo he would have a much better chance of being called.

To be fair Lorenzo did it for the Copa America with Duran and Yaser.

typically the 18-21 year olds that Brazil and Argentina bring along to some of these tournaments are playing regularly in their domestic league which is arguably as competitive if not more than most of the euro leagues.

    From the last call up
Open spots 1 gk - Ospina or Mier/Quintana .... Mosquera has 0 shot

DF - he isn't calling up a guy who he hasn't called before so those are all out and doubt Cuesta with a terrible season gets the nod.

LB - backup ..... up in the air they are all bad.

Rb- back up .... I don't think Arias gets taken out here.

DM - Castano needs to be replaced so does he go with a proven player like Barrios or go with Solis.

Amf - Carrascal get dropped for Rengifo/Villa

CF - Borre gets dropped for Cucho/Duran or even crazier Neiser

Wingers - this one so many options... feel they will take Carrascal spot.

I am happy with the list but Cuadrado, Sebastian Gomez and Stiven Mendoza.... are head scratchers

55 player list just seems a little ridiculous, some of these guys have no chance in hell.

It was an obligation by FIFA to have every preliminary roster up to 55 players be given to them by the week of May eleventh.
From what I have been hearing not all 55 players will be in Medellin for this special training camp. It starts out as a small camp this week until players fly in after their last club games. It will be more like 30-35 players by May 30th according to RCN tv. That weekend Lorenzo will announce the official roster of 26 players.

    yes and no...

if i am Neyser, Jordan Barrera, Rengifo, etc, i'm using the 55-list nomination as motivation to up my game play, technique, fitness, in-game IQ, etc. to be a better player for the 26-30 cycle.

A list of 55 is good because anyone can get injured prior to the tournament.
And I would say anyone on that list can get injured at any time (especially when it comes to Colombians :ROFLMAO:)

Seriously, it is good to have a large pool to choose from. Only players listed on the 55 man provisional roster can be called up. With a long training camp in Medellin, a short camp and match in Bogota, then a flight and match in San Diego bad things can happen. We hope they don't but they can.

Not to mention players that are still playing matches in Europe and elsewhere.

In these circumstances I can't blame him for that number.

80% plays crap right now. Are either not playing at all, just got thrown out of europe or their team, on a downward spiral going to worse and worse teams. Not even getting subbed in for 5-10 games.

That description fits yaser, duran and probably many others I've forgotten.

The NT will consist of 2nd division players, players from Brazil and benchplayers that hardly ever play for their team and injured prone guys who play well one game and then spend 10 weeks recovering. I'm not overly enthusiastic. It feels like we've hit our lowest point in 4-5 years just when the WC is around the corner. It's not because Borre and Cordoba suddenly have gotten better, it's because there are no new guys to talk about.

we can call up players until June 16th as long as they are in this list.

that is why Cuadrado seems like such an odd thing to do. He is injured and a sub at Pisa. Sebastián Gómez (30 plays in 2nd division Brazil... they got promoted but still was a 2nd division player)

both just seem so bizarre... I guess Cuadrado can be RB backup if Arias or Munoz gets hurt but still so odd. Both could have been youth players to motivate them.

Also with such a list wtf didn't any of these guys get a shot in a friendly

Canada, New Zealand, Australia should have seen a lot of these guys get called and with minutes

100% agree - more of the reason why i was critical of Nestor's lineup management in the 6 games we played since the WCQ process ended.

Maybe he totally miscalculated the development of 5-6 players and assumed we were fine. Then all of a sudden he notices he can’t count on them at all since they won’t get a single minute of playing time for weeks and weeks.

That’s where the new names come in.

All of a sudden just playing half hour every 2 weeks is enough. They’ve just lowered the bar that’s all since so few are doing really well. Only lucho, Suarez, muñoz and maybe Rios.

Losing Sini due to injury and Duran due to dumb decisions stunted our offensive growth mid to late WC cycle.
We have to hope “Sporting Suarez”shows up to the party. We also have to hope a winger plays out of his mind and better than expectations. Carbonero seems to be the latest candidate but it could be Campaz or Gomez or someone else. It does not matter who it is, we just need a boost somehow.

davinson being one of the 8 players training in Medellin right now brought up a good point on espn colombia. Yaser, who plays on the same team as davinson, not being there means he is likely not on the final roster

Good for Villa if true. He deserves it. Long overdue.
Let’s see if he can make the roster.

Again - Herrera. Duran breaks his loan to join camp and try to make the team...still hasn't shown up. Yaser doesn't show up.
