Article makes pretty clear what was in the contract, I think XtomX was responding to a second-hand interpretation of what Bill Archer might have said, but even in his reading of the contract it says that host cities have to provide a lane of traffic upon request.
No, he ended up correcting the memory of Bill’s comments: (vii) General Traffic Support The Host City Authority shall, upon the reasonable request of FIFA and/or the Member Association, at any time during the Competition Period, temporarily: restrict public access, or close public access completely, to any roads within the Host City; and a) provide special traffic access lanes as well as police escorts for the participating Teams, key representatives of FIFA and the Member Association, VIP guests and further Competition officials; I’m sure the Super Bowl contract has similar language. I haven’t read the article you linked to there but I imagine it’s looking to be a bit more sensational than dry.
The Super Bowl doesn’t require a motorcade procession (which these special access lanes are) for any and everyone Roger Goddell wants to have one. Hell, does Goddell even get one? Do you think those lanes don’t cost taxpayer money lol? “Some city contracts seen by The Athletic also said that “key representatives of FIFA and VIP guests” should receive, at any time during the World Cup, “special access traffic lanes.”” Not sensational, spells it out pretty clearly that anyone FIFA thinks is a VIP gets a traffic lane, obviously at the expanse of taxpayers, and traffic. Not something that I want my taxes going to pay for, but obvs ymmv.
