I think this criticism is overblown. I think Argentina has gotten away with tons of fouling over the last 2 world cups that other teams haven’t. Both this final and their last, they committed 25/26 fouls which were both record setting. And that isn’t counting the myriad fouls that weren’t called. Plus hardly any cards, and much less game suspensions. They have some super racist assholes on their team, the culture does have some endemic racism, but I don’t buy into the idea that they are massively more racist than many others. They seem slightly arrogant, but lots of people say that about Chile too. Let’s just say that the last decade of Argentina has relied heavily on hard fouls and negative futbol with a team that behaved poorly and refused to apologize for singing racist songs. They were disrespectful and crude. They thugged it up after losing. I don’t think we can apply the same behavior to a nation of almost 50M. That is lazy. Yeah, Argentina has problems. We all do. Their World Cup team is only a small part of it.
Tori Penso was on NPR this morning talking about her history making performance this year. News flash, she's still awesome.
