I’ve heard from several people i respect that it hit the cable… but I haven’t seen an angle where it is obvious it did. That nobody on the actual field reacted was telling to me. If it hit the cable, I don’t think it did so in a material way. Not that that is right, but it is so weird to see it as a complaint after. It felt like grasping for straws

I'll have to find the clip but there's a side view and the arc abruptly changes. It's noticeable

…. This is some Bigfoot level “evidence”. A white ball against a largely white background and the arc of the flight doesn’t seem wildly off

    am I crazy?

I dunno it seems to me the arc of the ball changes. But at the same time we had a goal disallowed for touching hair, and on those replays it definitely doesn't change the movement of the ball. I'm not a big fan of this heartbeat sensor since it doesn't feel needed to me.

I want to be really pissed for Switzerland but the dude made a meal out of the play and the ordered Uber Eats to make sure. His first yellow was also pretty dumb. He could have avoided that one too but he wanted to leave a mark. He plays for Switzerland but was auditioning for Argentina I guess.

I do think that Messi and Co. are getting some really sweet deals this WC but how much is just human nature and subconscious respect? I don’t know. I don’t really like it though. Morocco really had them on the ropes and then crapped the bed. They did get hosed on their second goal as well. That one is tough. It was a foul but looked like embellishment for sure initially.

The non red call for Messi in the first game really set the tone for discontent. It was so obvious and so obviously missed so now every call is magnified. A yellow, or an actual red card on that play, and Balogun maybe gets a yellow. Who knows.

I thought that Norway was the better team for most of the game but England just didn’t give up. The push from Erling was a foul. I was surprised it wasn’t whistled immediately. The ball hitting the wire kind of looks like it did but the only one that seemed to notice was the goalie. Their HC right there didn’t even flinch.

This WC will be remembered for a lot of things and the “questionable” calls just might lead the list.

The problem for me is a yellow card for simulation is almost never given in the middle of the field, especially if the player is already on a yellow. However, with the new rule of reversing cards given to the wrong player, the ref was forced to give the Swiss player a second yellow because he had already given it to the Argentina player. If he hadn't given the yellow, I bet he gives the Swiss player a caution and strong warning and the game doesn't shift as dramatically as it did.

Lots of Norwegian players and coaches immediately complained that it hit the wire after the goal.

To me that was a snowball effect of one person seeing something and the others latching on. You see if with offside shouts, hand ball pleas, etc. every replay shows the players on the field play as though everything was normal. Even right after the goal the GK is pissed his defenders got beat so easily. It’s not until the assistant who saw it says something that others start arguing it

I watched one of the replays and it looks like as the keeper is going out of frame at the bottom of the picture his arms go up like he saw it hit something.

Other than that no one else makes any obvious reaction.

Pretty sure the big question on everyone’s mind is, who will Sir Dave be rooting for in the England - Argentina game?

Damn they were good. In perfect positions virtually every time, lines connected to each other, and dangerous in attack.

Spain has been the perfect example of getting hot at the right time. They came out of the gates slow in the group stage, but they've built momentum and improved in each game.

I thought Cucurella was a candidate Man of the Match today. He was effective going forward and then had two really good interventions, one when Mbappe bumped him to create space (legally) and Cucurella pivoted and knocked the ball out for a corner.

I don't know if I can watch. Such a fun WC has the life sucked right out of it.

I want the final score to be 4-1 Spain or better. I doubt that will actually be the score because Spain will be given a sketchy red card in the first half to go down to 10 men. You heard it here first.

England did their best to not win but damn, Argentina gets all the calls. No red card. You can just punch guys in the head. No pk, you can just undercut guys in the box. Kudos to Argentina for taking advantage of every gift they have been given and the multitude of fouls not called on them. I saw a stat showing that they have to foul like 17 times before getting a card and their opponents get a card after every 5 fouls. What a joke.

How do I put this? Oh I know, ******** Argentina.

I’ve barely heard anyone talk about the undercut. I yelled out loud at the TV when that happened and my wife ran upstairs to see if I had hurt myself.
