Canada is clearly joining the US and Mexico at the top of concacaf. Any who says otherwise is just acting like others did with the US in the 00s.
Panama will play an angry Jamaica who'll need a win to stay hopeful. The Jamaicans lost points against US and Mexico at home that were attainable. The top three are separating a bit. As a Canadian, that is nice to see.
The doubtets and haters run out of arguments. After yesterday it should be clear for everyone that Canada are one of three powerhouses in CONCACAF. Costa Rica has left. Canada has taken over.
Yeah, I can't believe bookies had the US as favorites at their away match in Canada. I'm a US fan, of course, but so far this cycle: (1) Canada has more points, (2) a better goal differential, (3) They've played a much harder schedule, having already played away at Mexico and the US, and more away matches, and (4) The US historically plays much worse on the road than at home, and that is certainly the case this cycle. On the other hand, no Charlie Davies, and Canada's stadium will be at 50% capacity. But then, the US will be without Gio Reyna, and Berhalter will likely rotate players for the Canada match, to make sure the US gets 3 points at home vs. Honduras.
You mean Alphonso Davies. In my prediction contest before the round started, two people picked Honduras to win, six predicted a draw, and nobody predicted Canada to win. https://www.concacaf.com/world-cup-...a-ride-ruiz-score-to-massive-win-over-panama/ is titled "Costa Rica ride Ruiz score to massive win over Panama." https://www.concacaf.com/world-cup-...ergoal-highlights-canada-triumph-in-honduras/ is titled "David’s wondergoal highlights Canada triumph in Honduras." https://www.concacaf.com/world-cup-...-strike-late-to-secure-mexico-win-at-jamaica/ is titled "Martin, Vega strike late to secure Mexico win at Jamaica." https://www.concacaf.com/world-cup-...son-goal-enough-to-edge-u-s-past-el-salvador/ is titled "Robinson goal enough to edge U.S. past El Salvador." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP_FhdjsYoM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pgBloej09I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2re8iZH-P0
Unlike the last games they weren´t clutch yesterday. They will have to chase now the trio on the top.
Without a doubt. In fact, when Davies plays, you could make a case that they deserve to be at the top of the table in Concacaf. They might have the third most talented player pool, but arguably have played the best as a team so far.
I've read on other message boards that the Jamaica red card vs Mexico was extremely harsh/questionable; but, I have not seen a video. Has anyone seen this/care to share their thoughts on this?
It's not extremely harsh. One could argue it maybe doesn't fall into the clear and obvious category. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/concacaf-wcq-appointments-rs.2115633/page-28#post-40233325
Congrats @Robert Borden @vancity eagle ! The best team in the Ocho and the best team in Concacaf, without a doubt.
Canada 2-0 USA Just like in the Nations League on October 15, 2019, Canada scored in second half stoppage time to win 2-0 hosting USA. USA had more shots, but Canada had the shots without defenders back. Paramount Plus should not have shown a graphic saying Canada had 2 subs left because they made subs 1 at a time and did not have any more times to make subs. Canada's Steven Vitoria got a yellow and is suspended for their trip to El Salvador. Panama vs. Jamaica started an hour earlier than I saw it listed for. Michail Antonio scored in the 5th, and it's Panama 0-1 Jamaica in the 18th. Antonio scored the equalizer against USA two games ago, and now he scored to help USA stay above Panama. With a loss, Jamaica would be realistically eliminated by being 10 points behind Panama with 4 games left, and Jamaica would be in bad shape with a draw also. With a win, Jamaica would be 4 points behind Panama. Jamaica ends with three of four at home, and they are done with USA and Mexico. Panama plays USA, Mexico, and Canada in their last four games.
Panama scored 3, Jamaica scored in the 87th, and Panama won 3-2. Antonio's goal was the only penalty kick goal in Concacaf so far today. USA leads Panama by 1 point and 4 goal differential. USA's +6 is above Mexico's +5, so if Mexico draws USA will be ahead on goal differential. In the unlikely event that Mexico loses by at least 3 hosting Costa Rica, Panama will pass Mexico on goal differential. Mexico vs. Costa Rica is 0-0 in the 67th. Honduras vs. El Salvador is 0-0 in the 20th.
When I declared Canada was easily a top 3 side I thought at the time we were well beneath Mexico and US. But I think it's pretty u disputed now that Canada is the best team in concacaf. The Ocho is the perfect metric and the numbers and facts don't lie. Win at home against both US and Mexico and draw them both on the road. (Both road games could even have been victories) This victory over US without Davies and Estaquio. I mean who could imagine. There cannot be doubters anymore.
Honduras 0-2 El Salvador Honduras is eliminated because they have 3 points and can get 12 more to make 15. Fourth place Panama has 17.
I thought it was harsh. Made a clean tackle, but because he bumped into the guy afterwards his foot stomped on the guy. It's really hard to avoid that kind of thing sometimes. Not a red IMO.
On Tuesday, Canada can qualify, and Jamaica could be eliminated. In chronological order it is Jamaica vs. Costa Rica, USA vs. Honduras, El Salvador vs. Canada, and Mexico vs. Panama. Canada qualifies if they win, Costa Rica doesn't win, USA loses, and Panama loses. If the first three games go right for Canada, they qualify if the most likely outcome of the fourth game happens. If Costa Rica doesn't win, and USA loses, Canada could find out during halftime that they have a good chance at qualifying assuming they have a good chance at winning their game.
I set USA's game to DVR in English and Spanish. The description on Univision says "hexagonal." Today's USA Eastern start times are: Jamaica vs. Costa Rica at 7:00 P.M. USA vs. Honduras at 7:30 P.M. El Salvador vs. Canada at 9:00 P.M. Mexico vs. Panama at 10:00 P.M. If Costa Rica doesn't win, Honduras wins, Canada wins, and Mexico wins, Canada qualifies. Canada has clinched over El Salvador, Jamaica, and Honduras. Those results would make Canada clinch over Costa Rica. Canada would be 7 points above USA, 8 points above Panama, and they play each other, so both of them couldn't pass Canada. Jamaica will be eliminated if they don't get more points than Panama, so if Jamaica loses they will be eliminated before any other games end. El Salvador will be eliminated if they don't win and Panama wins, so El Salvador will probably survive. If USA and Mexico win, nobody other than Jamaica will qualify or be eliminated.
If you pay for Paramount Plus, https://www.paramountplus.com/live-...ad-to-qatar/rQcq69f4z4K3KsymOdY4wN1CcjbHMuF2/ has video of Jamaica vs. Costa Rica. It is scoreless in the 7th minute. Honduras is -14 through 10 games, and they haven't gone to USA or hosted Mexico. They (and all teams) have easier average opponents than teams in the Hexagonal because increasing the amount of teams decreases the average quality. There were six Hexagonals, which was 36 teams. The only teams with a goal differential that bad were Panama for 2006 and Canada for 1998. Fox Sports 1 says it is 4 degrees Fahrenheit with a windchill of -10 degrees and getting colder in St. Paul, where USA vs. Honduras will be. The field is heated underneath. Alexi Lalas said that USA should not complain about the cold because it will be ten times worse for Honduras. On another note, Lalas is one of 35 retired players from around the world who is taking FIFA's The Next 90 course to prepare them for another career that does not have to relate to soccer. In order to be admitted, players must have played for a national team and know English. In addition to Lalas, the Concacaf players are Luke Blakely (Antigua and Barbuda), Astor Henriquez (Honduras), Carli Lloyd (USA), Martin Machon (Guatemala), Pablo Melgar (Guatemala), and Heather O'Reilly (USA). Former New York Red Bulls Juan Pablo Angel (Colombia) and Tim Cahill (Australia) are taking it.
