4.1 for Germany v GHA stands as the highest rated non-US game on ESPN/ABC...We could end up with about 5 million viewers for that game...The final rating will probably settle around 3.6
Some Great combined ratings in major markets... As high as 20.1 in Miami (between ESPN + Univision)... In New York, USA-Portugal drew a combined 16.5 rating (12.5 on ESPN and 4.0 on Univision). Expand 1h John Ourand @Ourand_SBJ USA-Portugal drew a 17.2 rating in DC on ESPN/Univision combined. In DC, the game drew a 13.3 rating on ESPN and a 3.9 rating on Univision. Expand 1h John Ourand @Ourand_SBJ USA-Portugal on ESPN/Univision combined drew a 20.1 rating in Miami (9.4 ESPN; 10.7 Uni) and a 17.3 rating in LA (9.4 ESPN; 7.9 Univision.
Back to my initial prediction....It seems like I was predicting the game right-I had projected a rating somewhere between 15-18 million(Checked) I got Univision's rating pretty much right (projection of 6-7 million). The 9.1 Overnight rating threw a curb ball at me. Now, it appears that was for the 3-hour window. ESPN got a 10.4 rating for the telecast (it appears that is for the real match window, otherwise the 2.5 window)... But, I never taught we are going to get almost 25 million. That is remarkable. If the US makes it to the Quarterfinals (Those games will be played during 4th of July Weekend), I'm expecting the US game to earn anywhere between 23-25 million (Perhaps ABC based on what I'm seeing), and 7-8 million on Univision. That game if it happens, could be seen by 30 million+.
25 million and the game wasn't broadcast on ABC ( incredible stupid choice !! ) and an incredible number of people have watched it in the bars, restaurants, locals and parks........... Absolutely impressive !!!!
I bet local ABC affiliates would be changing their tune on allowing US matches through their local news time now. Too late now!
Showbuzzdaily has updated its spreadsheet to include the weekend matches on ESPN: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/world-cup-skedball-day-10-11.html Germany-Ghana is now the highest-rated non-US match on ESPN since the France-Italy semifinal in 2006 (which was on the 4th of July IIRC).
Yep. It's precisely what FS1 needs to become a major player. Shame for them that they need to wait four years.
Indeed. I just hope their Fox Sports Go service gets picked up my more providers. Hopefully in 4 years it will be like ESPN3.
ESPN has really been pulling out all of the stops. I hope they sign off with Bob Ley giving a short speech about how much ESPN has enjoyed broadcasting the World Cup over the last 20 years. Then he should extend his arm while holding a mic, and ostentatiously drop the mic. "Ley out."

ESPN/ABC average has risen to about 4.2 million average ( up to this past Sunday)...This number has already approached my the conservative prediction for WC2014 averaging about 4.1-4.2 million for ESPN/ABC. But, it appears that now we need to entertain the bullish side of analysis. On my bullish side, I expected the average for the whole tournament could reach around 5 million (with The US team making a deep run). We are up from the 3.2 million average during WC2010. The 4th of July Weekend Quarterfinal games will bolster the ratings, so will the upcoming USvGER game, and the Round of 16 starting this weekend. One thing to note, this week ESPNs numbers will be diluted because you have simultaneous matches on both ESPN/ESPN2.
Early prediction for the USvGER game on ESPN & Univision: ESPN- We could see around an average of about 8-10 million viewers. Overnight rating could settle around 6.0-7.0. WatchESPN: We will see another record breaking streaming number with about total of 2 million views, with an average of about 750k-1 million/minute. Univision-It will pull around 4 million viewers. Final Estimate: We could see around 12 million-14 million on TV, and close to 1 million average on digital platforms.

Now, here's an important statistical question - how are the ratings "time slot-for-time slot" visavis 2006? And the reason I am asking this is because that would take the Brazil vs. South Africa time difference out and leave the rest to the growing popularity of the game in the US.
I can't remember exactly, but how much of a time-slot difference is there? In both places, games are timed for the European tv market. You wouldn't play an 11:00 am game in Brazil otherwise, and you'd probably have an 8:00 pm game instead of the last game starting at 5:00. I can certainly remember morning and early afternoon games (in my time zone - US Central) in 2010. The final was midafternoon here. Isn't it about the same? I think it was only Japan/Korea that was timed substantially differently, because you simply couldn't do it in a way that optimized viewership in Europe.
