We did this for the qualifiers and I thought we could continue it here - a thread where we could keep track of eliminated teams in chronological order. 204 countries began trying to qualify for this tournament and we are down to the last 32. Although South Africa, France and Nigeria are all on the brink - still no one has been eliminated yet officially. Algeria could become the first team to go today if they lose to England, regardless of the score between Slovenia + USA.
And all 14 teams who have played still have a shot. Several of them, a quite remote shot, but a shot nonetheless.
Amazing! Algeria fought for their lives and are still in it. Tomorrow, Cameroon will be eliminated if they lose to Denmark and Holland do not lose to Japan. Likewise, Denmark would be eliminated should they lose to Cameroon and Holland do not lose to Japan. Should Japan v Holland end in a draw, the loser of Cameroon/Denmark will be eliminate... it's getting exciting!
We have a winner! Cameroon become the first team to be eliminated! Congrats Cameroon.... So the table officially looks like this: 32. Cameroon
Why? 32 means that Cameroon is the 32nd-last team to be eliminated. The Netherlands have not yet been eliminated so they don't go on the list.
31? Isn't that what Kim Jong Il normally shoots on 18 holes? http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/WTARC/2004/ea_nkorea_06_16.html
Chile's win over Switzerland means that Honduras cannot statistically be eliminated today. Should they lose to Spain, they can still beat Switzerland and hope that Chile beats Spain and qualify on GD, unlikely but still possible. Should Spain lost however, than they will be added to this list.
Ivory Coast isn't officially eliminated, but rumor has it North Korea and Ivory Coast will be fielding teams of zombies for their game.
32. Cameroon 31. North Korea 30. France - Au Revoir ! 29. South Africa - A respectable finish 28. Greece 27. Nigeria
oh well... it's a Nigerian nightmare and Greek tragedy as two more teams join the list.... 32. Cameroon 31. North Korea 30. France 29. South Africa 28. Nigeria 27. Greece
Who is 27 and who is 28? Nigeria had the worse record, but the Greece game ended about 45 seconds before the Nigeria game.
26. Algeria 25. Slovenia 4 African teams officially out, with a 5th in coma. 3 European teams out 1 Asian team and Honduras makes 10.
actually, in the case where teams are eliminated at the same time (ie; Slovenia / Algeria, Greece / Nigeria) - I was actually recording them due to the order they finished in the table... in other words Algeria would be #26/Slovenia #25. The reason for this is that is the time difference in which the games end is so marginal and in many cases like tonight, Slovenia were not officially eliminated until the other game ended. Anyhoo... Despite the officials best attempts to ensure the USA for the first time in history went an entire world cup undefeated, it was alas not to be as Donovan's strike ensured we will have to go out via the penalty shootout to achieve that little piece of history. 32. Cameroon 31. North Korea 30. France 29. South Africa 28. Nigeria 27. Greece 25. Algeria 24. Slovenia
North Korea and Cameroon were both eliminated after two games. On a timeline scale, they were eliminated before Greece.
yeah, I think he means in the event of last night when Nigeria + Greece were both elminated. Nigeria were playing South Korea and could only draw 2-2 while Greece lost 2-0 to Argentina. The debate whether or not to put Nigeria first who finished in last or Greece who finished about Nigeria in the table but whose game finished a couple of seconds before....
