São Paulo FC clinched the São Paulo State Championship title in 1957 by narrowly defeating Pele's Santos. They also finished second in 1958. With Zizinho as the linchpin of the team, Guttman's adoption of the 4–2–4 formation in São Paulo became the foundation of Brazil's successful strategy in the 1958 World Cup Finals. Of course, it was also well-known that Guttman was not the first manager to use that formation in Brazil. However, some said that it was Zizinho's performance that brought Guttman's tactics to the national team. He played 67 games and scored 27 goals during his two-season stint with the club. For this Bigsoccer game, we are counting the performance of 1957 as well, which made him a prime candidate. In fact, his last cap was in 1957. In the halves-line, the champion couple in Eckel-Mai, with the captain and german brain, Fritz Walter, alongside a young Brülls. As forwards, two champions in the wings, Rahn and Schäfer, with the new star, Seeler as striker.
In the matchday1 for Group 2, the Home team, Sweden, sent an experienced XI vs hungarians, playing a classic WM Kalle Svensson at goal. In defense, Bergmark and Axbom as fullbacks, with the Serie-A defender Gustavsson as stopper. The duo: Börjesson-Parling as halves, alongside the legends Gren and Liedholm as attacking mids. At front, the tridente: Hamrin, Selmonsson and Skoglund.
The Hungarians had settled on this opening line-up already, although probably had expected a similar Sweden line-up to the one revealed. Young star Albert is to play not so much in a true deep-lying centre forward role, but more like an older-fashioned (1930s central European-style) centre-forward, and is to be looking to break through with slick combination play and dribbles. The pair of wing-halves will play as a partnership, aiding a constructive style of play with the ball (with potential to advance up near the opposition penalty area even at certain moments) but also keeping an eye on the Swedish inside forward movements from their deep midfield positions where they can help screen and cover the defence. Bozsik and Palotas will both conserve their energy and legs, not being as young as they were, but will always be looking to link play with the forwards who aren't specifically assigned tasks to drop deep but will all be free to do so to receive the ball in good positions and also to help out closing down space and Sweden players or recovering the ball (Puskas is to be involved in this the least probably, even less than Tichy, given his own age, while Czibor will be the most active of the forwards in moving around and Albert is free to do what he wants).
Against West Germany The team was bulit around Pele. Brazil never lost a match with Pele and Garrincha on the same lineup. I decided to field Pele's "Os Santásticos" teammate Pepe instead of Mario Zagallo. Mazzola "Jose Altafini" played with Pele against Wales. The defensive until did not change from the original team. The original unit did not concede a goal until the semifinal. Note: In real life, Germany or West Germany did not play against Brazil in a World Cup Finals match until the 2002 World Cup Final.
