Melbourne have signed a brillant BRAZILIAN left back.

It's shaping up for quite a season.

Any word on who the player actually is yet? Must say Melbourne have done very well this off-season.

we will be unstoppable, sydney can sign all the has-beens they want to get a bandage and some instant success but melbourne actually know how to recruit and have the best squad by far in the a-league.. and once we get viduka in a couple of years we will be one of the best in asia

What a shame you can only put 11 players on the feild at once.

Just quietly im pretty happy how the squad is shaping up..

Anything less than Merrick holding up the tolet seat at the end of the year in front of a sold out Telstra Doma will be disipointing.

Farking im looking forward to it.

Hahaha, no I doubt it dude.If there was a dollar for every Brazilian called Alessandro or "Alex", world famine and poverty would be unknown.Although, I'd like to get profiles on some of these guys because if they're any good, and continue to improve, we could somewhere down the track cap them.A long shot, but not an impossibility.

players that show they have a little bit of potential to come on for a little bit in a asia cup qualifier or something so if they turn out to be the next ronaldinho they cant play for brazil lol

Well as I said, at this stage, it wouldn't be even being contemplated. But its not beyond the realms of possibility if they haven't been capped for Brazil at U/23 level.Santos for Japan is a prime example of how it can happen. Also, if I'm not mistaken I think thats how we got Kilkenny tied, by bringing him on for a short period against Liechtenstein.SAomething to look at down the track, again, if warranted. But they've certainly looked the goods at MV for somewhere to start.

We should extempt south amercians espcially Brazilians from the salary cap!:D I swear the more of these guys we get in the A-League the better and more exciting it will become and rasie the standards higher.

South AMericans or even africans, some good players coming out of their now as well.

Not really sure if I like the idea of exempting players from the salary cap, but thats probably just me. I just think its a sure way for clubs to send themselves broke at this early stage.

Looks like clubs have been picking up some quality players though, should be a great season.

Yeah Africans as well, you never know one day we might get the next Samuel Eto'o or Michael Essien playing in the A-league...

lol mate, perhaps the A-league might get the next Eto'o or Essien, but what will happen is, the A-league won't have enough money to resign these fellas, and the international clubs will swoop them away with their money. :p

lol yeah I know that but even if we get some of these guys for a few years before they hit the big time it would be great!

I think thats what we need for a while, to bring people in and let them use us as a stepping stone to bigger things.

Let it build from there and eventually we may be able to hold onto them and local players.

Yeah... But think of the transfer fees if that was to happen :D

And BTW, are there any Africans playing in the 06/07 season? First I've heard. Would not be a bad idea though.

Good to see that teams have kept their eyes on the world cup and targeted players within their measures.

But what about that supposed influx of Socceroos Muscat promised? How many Socceroos or ex-Socceroos have signed? Okon, presumably Lazaridis will... Anyone else?

Lazaridis should be signing for Perth Glory.... they are going to need him!
