Should there be recognition for the best team in the league( not including the play off season) in the form of a "Supporter's Shield"? Congratulations to the Carolina Railhawks for being the best team in the 2011 NASL Regular Season.
oooh on a slightly different note the NASL should have a sort of community shield as the first regular season match for next year. The playoff champion vs. the regular season champion.
Not a bad idea, make it the opening game of the season to save on travel. By the way what do other countries do when the cup champion is the same as the season champion?
The trophy given out for the playoffs is much bigger, that's just for the regular season. The supporters shield in MLS is tiny too.
Nope, that's the real thing, and it was ridiculous. As happy as the Carolina guys were, there are a couple of photos where you can see openly confused faces looking at the trophy. This season NASL called the Railhawks their "Regular Season Champion," and that's the language I'd like to see retained moving forward. Here's to hoping they get this sorted out for next season ... when is that sanctioning announcement coming again?
This may not have a name yet but opening the following season with the soccer Bowl Champs vs the club with the best overall record could be a trophy.
"... the tentative target is to have the physical trophy designed and produced by opening kick 2014, so it can be presented to this year’s winning club." http://www.woosnamcup.com/ You should have the actual trophy by next spring.
Breaking news, Cosmos have won the imaginary 2013 old format playoffs. This is based on the following. NY (5 seed) beats Minnesota (4 seed) based on their Fall season head to head Edmonton (6 seed) beats Atlanta (3 seed) based on combined Spring / Fall head to head Carolina and Tampa get first round byes for finishing as the 1 & 2 seeds respectively in the relatively meaningless regular season that allows 75% of teams to qualify for the playoffs. NY beats Tampa based on Fall head to head to advance to the Soccer Bowl series Carolina beats Edmonton based on Spring / Fall head to head to advance to Soccer Bowl series NY defeats Carolina 4-3 agg in the Soccer Bowl series final based on Fall head to head. See everyone in 2014...
Jeez, will you just drop it? It's not even funny. Anyway, congrats on the Railhawks on being the full season champs.
Looks like NASL is recognizing the Woosnam Cup. From the NASL.COM website : "With a 2-1 victory over the San Antonio Scorpions (3W-1T-10L, 10pts), the Carolina RailHawks (7W-2T-5L, 23pts) captured the Woosnam Cup, that awards the team with the most points over the Fall and Spring Season" Cool, and good on them!
