I think Wondo's absence might be to both forwards being from the same team (and having produced bunches of goals). If the plan is for cohesiveness of team, I can understand those choices. Of course, if you look at the midfield pairings, then that logic kind of falls apart...It amazes me that Wondolowski's obvious value is still underrated.

I think a lot of it stems from Wondo's workman-like attitude and skillset. He rarely dazzles with fancy footwork, fakes and misdirections; rather he tends to turn up unexpectedly (and unmarked) in the box with the ball at his feet or in the air and efficiently tuck it away into the net.

Trying to think of a phantom pun but can't find it. Anyway, he's like a phantom in the respect that yes, I think even people watching the game tend to forget he's in there until he suddenly hits one into the back of the net...it's like he's got Predator powers or something.

He wasn't left off the list. He was the first ommission. The writer decided to go with Cooper. We would put Wondo. Both are streaky scorers who have strengths and weaknesses. Both are border national team players.

Actually, I thought that he did a real good job on the list. He got both Chavez and Beta on the list.

Agree with this, the article isn't really a snub on Wondo - the question is whether you pick the allstar team based on who has played the best during the MLS year, or who is most likely to play well together and beat Chelsea. I go for the former, I think good play should be rewarded. But I can understand the argument that if you want to pick a starting lineup that meshes well together, then Henry clearly would partner better with Cooper - they have experience playing together, and Cooper complements Henry more than Wondo. Wondo plays more similar to Henry (not style as much as spacing, making runs, playing a bit withdrawn, etc).

It's good to see that Wondo is getting the recognition across the general voting, though, as he's leading the forward voting. With Olsen being named the coach, it will be interesting to see if he picks several DCU players to fill out the roster after the First XI are voted on, or what.

o_O I know what you mean, but on the face of it, an odd statement :--).
