2017-18 Serie A season finale It sounds like the end of this season was really intriguing! Brescia won 2-1 at Juve on April 14. In the final week Brescia and Juve both won well, and they topped the table on equal points, with Giacinti as the top scorer: https://web.archive.org/web/2018060...no.it/serie-a/risultati-e-classifica-serie-a/ Juventus 60 Brescia 60 Tavagnacco 43 Fiorentina 43 Atalanta Cfd 42 Chievo Verona 26 Agsm Verona 25 Res Roma 22 Sassuolo 19 Ravenna 16 Pink Bari 16 Empoli Ladies 11 But the points tie-breakers add more intrigue. Does Italy have any new rules? Except for the championship and relegations, the head-to-head tiebreak is used: so Tavagnacco took 3rd from Fiorentina. But 1st and 2nd, Juve and Brescia, had a playoff match to decide the championship, because they were level on points. Apparently that used to be the rule in the men's Serie A. This was the title playoff, spareggio scudetto: (To explain the 2nd half non-penalty - there's an offside flag, not seen on screen). Juve's channel has highlights here. So, it all came down to that! At the bottom of the table, Pink Bari (Pink Sport Time) fished themselves out of danger by winning two playoffs - first against Ravenna/San Zaccaria, who are relegated. And on May 27, Pink Bari and Sassuolo both beat Serie B opposition, to survive in Serie A. (Info from https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serie_A_2017-2018_(calcio_femminile)) Coppa Italia: the final was on May 26, Fiorentina v Brescia: Full match was on Facebook below, or highlights / match report. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1658874654165670
From the table link above, I've also learned what a media inglese is, an "English average" of a team's points. Never heard of it before...
Yes, it's something popular here in Italy only! Not sure if any other country (England, where it's born, included) still uses it or even has the slightest notion of it. By the way: thanks for your update. @gricio61 stopped updating this thread (likely for some personal reasons) and I am too much busy with Nadeshiko Japan thread to take care of this thread in any way. I'll anyway follow the Italy-Portugal WWC qualifier match at the end of this week and I'll likely post highlights here when they'll surface.
Eni Aluko is going to Juventus: 1004370247305121793 is not a valid tweet id It was no secret that she was leaving England, but maybe a slight surprise in her destination. Wonder how she'll fit in in Serie A...
Well, maybe Italian clubs finally want to have some ambitions and don't want to be just sparring-partners to the big clubs in Champions' League. So far, quarter-finals have looked like the best an Italian club can reach: I am not a fan of Juventus in particular, but I would like if sometime an Italian club could look at higher targets.
"Ce ne andiamo al mondiale!!!" What a match! Finally we make it after 20 years. No highlights from the match yet (that I wathced entirely on RaiSport yeterday), meanwhile post-match stuff has been uploaded:
We finally get highlights from Italia-Portugal. They're quite short, but they're excellent in that 100% of the key-actions of the match are covered!
seems like Italy might be the new hot spot for soccer next season; besides Aluko, Juvuntus is close to signing Claire 'hot legs' Rafferty Claire Rafferty (difensore del Chelsea, classe 1989) potrebbe essere un nuovo rinforzo per la #JuventusWomen in vista della prossima CL.👀🖊️ @clrafferty1 pic.twitter.com/MwXsvhUIF2— VecchiaSignora Women 🤍🖤 (@VS__Women) June 12, 2018 a couple of German girls that proably would make their NT B squad(if only they had one) from their mid tier Bundi team, Hoffenheim, are set to join the Serie A Tamar Dongus(to FC Florentina) Stephanie Breitner(AC Florenz) hmm...............sounds like the same town?
New teams AS Roma and AC Milan will compete in Serie A femminile from 2018/19. But Brescia, the league runners-up, will be replaced by Milan. - rossoneriblog.com/2018/06/12/milan-officially-acquire-brescia-calcio-femminile-will-participate-in-next-seasons-serie-a-womens-championship (Archived) - football-italia.net/123031/roma-launch-women's-team (Archived) Roma board member Mia Hamm was involved in the process of forming a women's team. (Reuters.com) And (edit!), 4th-place Fiorentina have done it, winning the playoff in Padua: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=it&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=https://web.archive.org/web/20180617003434/https://www.oasport.it/2018/06/calcio-femminile-spareggio-champions-league-fiorentina-tavagnacco-3-0-le-viola-conquistano-il-pass-europeo/&edit-text=&act=url
So, whose spot did Roma take? I guess they have overtaken Res Roma? Also what happend to the players of Brescia? Where they given the option to join Milan or does Milan start Fresh with 0 players?
my bad, looks like Claire Rafferty decided to sign with West Ham instead. But here's another signee for Fiorentina; Belgium FB, Devina Phitjens.. She's small in size(maybe under 5 ft) but very fun to watch! http://nieuws.vrouwenvoetbal.be/?p=35828
For all those who are excited by Italian NT going to WWC 2019, two videos recetly uploaded on the official YouTube channel. Italy-Portugal's highlights from a ground-level view: All the 18 goals that Italy scored so far (7 wins out of 7 matches, with 18 goals scored and just 2 against). Below the video, you find the details of the single matches: - 15 September 2017: Italy-Moldova 5-0 (9' Sabatino, 22' Bonansea, 33' Girelli, 38' Bergamaschi, 60' Girelli) - 19 September 2017: Romania-Italy 0-1 (77' Corduneanu [Own Goal]) - 24 October 2017: Italy-Romania 3-0 (51' Girelli, 76' Girelli, 78' Bonansea) - 24 November 2017: Portugal-Italy 0-1 (37' Sabatino) - 28 November 2017: Moldova-Italy 1-3 (8' Tucceri Cimini, 30' Colesnicenco [Own-Goal], 76' Giacinti) - 10 April 2018: Italy-Belgium 2-1 (42' Rosucci, 80' Girelli) - 8 June 2018: Italy-Portugal 3-0 (4' Girelli, 13' Salvai, 90'+1' Bonansea)
Katie Rood was at Juventus last season - the second half of this interview has some insights into Serie A from a foreign perspective! - https://in-the-back-of-the.net/2018/07/01/an-interview-with-katie-rood/ (Archived)
big news once again from Juventus, they sign Lianne Sandersen https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44832981 that will make them a strong attacking force as she plays alongside Aluko, Gireli & Bonansea. My only question will be is; will the club have enough money anymore once they pay off Ronaldo's salary as well as Mandruzic will probably want a huge raise once he's back from the WC final. From what I read, an auto factory(That Juventus owns) all ready gone on strike!
There seem to be problems with the new Serie A season? Anyone has more info? My googleing found some links that sound like some kind of stike maybe? https://www.calciodonne.it/rubriche...alciatrici-e-presidenti-uniti-per-lo-sciopero http://www.figc.it/it/204/2543169/2018/07/News.shtml http://www.lnd.it/it/news-lnd/organ...essarie-alla-convocazione-dell-assemblea-figc AS Roma (who took over Res Roma) have apparently stopped all activity too http://www.forzaroma.info/news-as-r...ivita-ufficiale-se-non-torna-tutto-alla-figc/ http://www.romacalciofemminile.it/b...e-di-tutte-le-componenti-il-calcio-femminile/ I don't speak Italian. Did the FIGC (Professional federation) took over the league from the LND (Amateur federatio) and tried to professionalize with the men's teams (Milan, Roma) and the LND is not happy about it now? I don't know.
Well, based on what I saw from Juventus today against Arsenal in a preseason match, the Italian league is way behind the English women's league. With at least 10 minutes to go in the match, Arsenal was ahead 5-0 in a game in which Juventus was barely competitive. Arsenal had about 80 percent ball possession and was far superior. I mean, you have to expect the Italian league to be weak if Juve can come in and win the title in its first season. I'm sure the league--and especially Juve, being a big club--will steadily get better.
Yeah, it's quite confusing from the outside. Have there been any more developments? Roma are in training now - preparing for a friendly in New York. (Page says Serie A starts mid-September) - http://www.asroma.com/en/news/2018/8/gallery-roma-women-begin-pre-season-preparations
don't got a link but from what I've read, a couple of new international signings for AC Milan; Lady Andrade(from Colombia) Thaisa Moreno(Brazil)
Another friendly in London on Wednesday night - Chelsea won 3-0, including two goals in the last five minutes: - http://www.juventus.com/en/news/news/2018/juventus-women-drop-match-at-chelsea-fc-women.php (Archived)
Sorry for not adding much to the discussion, guys, but despite being Italian and living in Italy, I am not really in touch with the situation, and in the last days I've been in France for U-20 WWC. When I'll get back I'll see if I can find any first hand info (although it's difficult, because women's football doesn't use to make to mainstream media in Italy ).
http://www.mondosportivo.it/2018/08...-tra-le-societa-di-calcio-femminile-e-la-lnd/ Yeah, FIGC and LND are discussing who "owns the rights" for Serie A and B. Both want the season to start soon. The Super Cup though has already been postponed.
12-0. Ha! Take that, Division III college team - http://www.asroma.com/en/news/2018/8/as-roma-women-win-historic-first-friendly
the link didn't work. Must be said though, Div 3 is the only division that doesn't offer athletic scholarships & since their private schools, don't have to adhere to the fame TITLE XI; the bread & butter of American woso & in my book, why we were #1 in back in 1991 and still are today(ranked #1, despite the recent surge of Euro pro team taking an interest in woso). if your from England? got to tell you this story; but just last week i took my girl to a college refresher soccer camp at a D2 school called Delta St, which was located 100's of miles, way out in the boondocks/isolated even by my crappy state's standards. Yet the whole soccer staff were from England along with at least a half dozen players. The coach said he's got hundred's players from all over the world that try to apply for his team, but can't make it based on that they can't pass the academic tests or can't get an visa/ The coach also boasted how when he visits back home in London wearing his Delta St t-shirt, how strangers will come up to him & say 'so your with the fighting CHOCOTAWS!(the schools nickname)
