mls confidential is reporting that mls is trying to buy him outright... apparently we would have gone after him in the supplemental draft if things had been finalized by then (re: no agreement between the two leagues)

Doesnt really make much sense since Woly is under contract to no one. His team (Rampage) folded and he is not under contract to Wave United, although I suppose they do have negoiating rights.

The A-League must control his rights as they have already shipped other ex-'Page players to other A-League franchises.

If other players have signed with other franchises, it should be because they couldn't reach agreement with MWU (which as stated had first negotiation rights with all former Rampage players). I think saying that they were "shipped out" is a mischaracterization.

It also sounds like the new team isn't all that interested in many of the 'Page players. Or their coach.

So Wolnyec could be our big off-season signing?!? I'm hyperventilating.

    Wow, times are tough...

I like Woly, actually. We're not going to build a team around him, since he's not that kind of a player, but he can fill a useful, necessary role. He knows what his limits are, and he'll play within them. If we needed him to be our star, we'd be in trouble, but he gets the job done. I mean, I'd rather we still had Diego and guys like that, but given the way things are, Woly will do us proud.

And this way, Joseph P. can wear his Wolyniec jersey with pride.

I hate to break it to you, but if we could afford a "knock your socks off" signing, we wouldn't have had to get rid of the starting players we did.

Anyway, is John on par with Thierry Henry? No. Can he be effective in MLS when he is used correctly and allowed to play his game? Yes. And right now, after shedding the players we have and with Razov and Dipsy sitting out the begining of our season, I'll take that.

plus if we sign him im sure he will be only a $100,000 signing in fantasy MLS.

you do realize that faria wasn't on our team last year?

    correct?

    and now he is

so when you compare woly to faria... which would you think would be a bigger pickup?

i'd say it's faria, hands down

do i care that he came over for the bradley move? no, nice to piss bobbie off

You do realize Faria isn't exactly making the league max, right? And that we gave up Josh, Hristo and Nowak during this offseason to clear cap space.

I was comparing Faria to the possibility of getting another franchise player like Nowak, not to Woly, since A Train seemed to be expecting some great signing like that. For all the good he'll do us this year, I wouldn't put Faria down as a "big off-season signing" in an absolute sense. Now, if we'd gotten Ruiz, THAT would qualify as a "big off-season signing".

You seemed to think that Faria was a big signing or at least also expected a big signing this offseason. At least, that's how I read your post.

Anyway, I think we're both basically in agreement on all points here.

Like who? The Wave/United traded Jason Russell to Richmond and Popik looks like he will be signing with MLS/Galaxy. I haven't read about any other players moving.
