    Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United

Giggs is likely out with a back injury, Fletcher is back from suspension, P. Nev is suspended for Yellow Cards (I think), but Ronaldo is back from holiday as he watched the draw with Newcastle from the stands. Everybody else is fit and available, although I think Djemba is on National Team duty for the Africa Nations Cup and Ole, who is now another further week away before his first game back for United Reserves.

The BBC is reporting Butt wants out, Fergie put a 5 million tag on him. this could be Nicky's last game in a United jersey, I hope he gets a proper send off.

start Roy Carrol in goal and put howard up top instead of Van Nistel Roy.

    MU 3- Wolves 1

Howard forgets he is not keeper and makes a brilliant save on a free kick, only to be sent off for intentional handball.

Roy Carol is to busy laughing his ass off to stop the Wolves penalty.

Yeah, and we could put Gary Neville up front as his striker partner as he seems to score a goal whenever Howard is close by.

I really hope Ronaldo is back. The team missed him very badly against Newcastle. Especially if Giggs is gone, he'd seem to be the only hope of decent wing play.

Kleberson does not belong on the wings. Love his play as a CM, and would like him to stay there.

It really wont be so bad, Fletch will be available and Ronaldo can play on the Left... we have seen how little good Kleb does on the wings... in the absence of Ronaldo and Fletch we might as well use Bellion or Forlan in the future... I personally think Forlan could become a decent winger... not in the 4-4-2 sense, but more in the 4-3-3 sense where you need a pacey striker who can head and cross... which he actually can do... it would put him so far away from other strikers that he would not bump heads with them by making poor runs as he often does...

It's a side with a gaping hole that deliberately fields Darren Fletcher as a first choice winger.

Surely, even if you've bought into his general "abilities," you'll agree that he's very ill-suited as being a winger. Slow, mediocre crossing, mediocre dribbling, and without David Beckham's more sensational abilities. Even if you like him in the middle, he is certainly not suited to the wings.

Fletcher is 3rd choice right winger behind Ole and Ronaldo.

I see nothing wrong with playing him out there to cut his teeth, especially against Wolves.

Keane has said Fletcher should play in the middle, I think its time to see if he is right.

I think Fletcher will have more opportunity to play in the right. Right now the middle is full of players. But let's see maybe he can do better in the middle.

its a learning curve for Fletcher being on the right, Fergie has stated that he expects him in future to be centre mid, and when i have seen him there he has played well and it does look his best positon, on the right he will get more protection. If Fletcher plays like he did against Bolton on the right then there will be no complaints

    Oh, fantastic.

So our right wing options are:

    1. An 18 year-old who gets a 3 week break in the middle of the season.

    2. A striker-turned winger who has been a sub most of his life (very good as a versatile player, but it's really not his position).

    and

    3. A slow, 19 year-old CM who can't dribble.

Fantastic. And people say Man Utd is the biggest club in the world.

As you know, I'm a huge Ole and Ronaldo fan. But the right wing is a problem, and it's a huge one with Ronaldo gone and Ole hurt.

How did you feel when Schmeikes got an extended holiday in Spain in the middle of our Treble winning season? Were you panicking and cursing Sir Alex's judgement then too?

Actually, I didn't follow United closely enough to know what was going on :). I was rooting for them back then, but in a sort of "Gee, I'd rather that team win that loses" sort of way.

P.S. Did you think Diego Forlan was going to be the next great United striker once SAF spent a significant sum of money on him?

Let's not hide behind the "trust SAF" mantra. He gets some wrong, he gets some right. He's a great manager because he gets it right a lot more than just about anyone else.

You should get rid of this silly idea, motterman, that any criticism of Utd, the team or Alex is "panicking and cursing".

To modify a quote from Nietzche "A fan repays his club badly if he remains forever a sycophant" ;)

Nietzche's almost as good as the Bible and Bob Dylan when it comes to quotes for every occasion :D

And if he were a Utd supporter (and why not, surely the Utd team epitomises his ideals?) he would surely say that Utd need an uberstriker to play alongside RvN. ;)

"The historian sees backward. In the end he also believes backward."
Nietzche on our right-wing issue (pass it back to Gary as he is the only one who has provided any decent crosses from that side)

"'What does not destroy us only serves to make us stronger."
Nietzche on Laurant Blanc and subsequent Rio purchase

"If you stare into the Abyss long enough the Abyss stares back at you."
Nietzche suggesting were gonna be staring back at Wolves at the weekend

"We talk so abstractly about poetry, because we are all bad poets."
Nietzche on football message boards :)

I would like to see Bellion given a chance, with his pace at least he could make some ground before passing it back to Garry.

Damnit Fergie. Why don't you buy Vieri, Nesta and Van der Vaart and let's win everything in the world? ;)

But seriously, all this second guessing of the Gaffer is needed and there are plenty of fans who feel the same way:

    Fergie buy a striker
    Fergie buy a defender
    Fergie play Player X here
    etc.

I'm not saying anybody I disagree with is daft or anything. Or anytime somebody disagrees with Fergie's decisions or policies I don't blast them either. Most of the time I remind them that Fergie's been down this road many a time, and has done the business more times than not. That doesn't mean he's unfallible or above criticism either, just that Fergie does a magnificent job at keeping his players fresh for the late title run-ins and also with bringing youngsters into the squad as well.

    Cheers,

Motterman - The Moderate Moderator. :D

We just need to bring Ruud to defend on set peices, and send gary up front to wait for the long counter... that should cut down on own goals..

I don't see a problem with Ronaldo on the right...

I also don't see a problem with Ruud playing up top by himself...

What is more important than having a striker to partner Ruud is having a striker to partner Forlan if Ruud ever gets hurt.

Without Ruud I think United simply have to go back to a 4-4-2...

The only way Uniteds version of the 4-5-1 work are with a striker of van nistelroy's capability.

If Ole ever gets healthy there is no reason HE can't partner Forlan in a 4-4-2 with Ronaldo on the right.

Buddy, you are getting carried away... The idea was, rest Giggs... the team's best winger, and play Ronaldo on the left... and whomever on the right... since SAF has been drooling over Fletcher for reasons, only he and Motterman can attest to I figured he would be played there... Our wingers go... Giggs, Ole, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Bellion... thats not so bad, its just our top 2 are injured, our number three is pretty darn good, but four and five are "developing" you tell me any team that can do without their best 2 wingers and field a dominating tandem of flank players (on paper, we will still be dominating on he field, agains wolves no less...) and mind you, we have just been unfortunate having Ole injured for so long the very year we sell Becks... imagine Ronaldo and Fletch a year from now and then you will see how strong we are... as for now, we've done pretty good so far...

This is seriously one of the funnier posts ive read... and quite good... I had a similar thing with Shakespeare before Christmas break...

In other news... I know what my Doctoral Thesis will be on... Sporting Theory... I was in Communication Theory class when it struck me... I need to develop some major theses on this subject... I think it would be major cool... I'm a bit ahead of myself of course being a junior undergrad but hey...

I would like to see Bellion given a chance, with his pace at least he could make some ground before passing it back to Garry.
