I just received a call from the Wizards office. The promoter has cancelled the Wizards v Ajax Capetown game which was to be shown Saturday morning on Metro Sports and at the Pavillion watch party.

With the "attendence" at the first two games I can't say I'm surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised.

Nice! We travel over there for our preseason training time just to get cancelled out before our last game? Maybe theres a reason no pro sports team has ever played in SA. We spend money to go there and dont get the max benefit, and dont score any goals.

    Man, that sucks.

Plain and simple, and for so many reasons.

Sad news. But if you can make it, the Wizards are playing the Dallas Burn in Tulsa on April 5. It would be great to have a big audience at Skelly Stadium to show that MLS can succeed in Tulsa. I will be unable to grace this game with my presence, since I will be at Old Trafford watching ManU v. Liver-n-Onions, but I do hope the Tulsa match is a success. Let me know!

For being a "Wizards fan" you dont spend a lot of time on the board do you? We've got a trip planned, many have already got their tickets, and we're planning on drinking all the beer in the town. We'd tell you how that went in Milwaukee last August, but honestly not many of us can remember. :)

hopefully they'll still be able to organize a practice scrimmage or something to get some good competition in, even if it's not an official practice game.

kind a bush league to cancel a game like this after a team flies 5,000 miles to get there. o well.

There is more than a little irony in calling a South African team "bush league". Keep up the good work.

I think the South African federation helped pay for our trip.

They are trying to win a bid to host the 2010 World Cup, and were planning to use this as means to "prove to FIFA", that they are a soccer country. So in a way, it's bitter sweet, because their failure helps the US in their bid to host the 2010 World Cup.

Of course, the Wizards are used to playing in front of crowds like that. :)

I remember the first goal right after the kickoff, then I woke up in Iowa.

Worst part is that you were driving and you got a ticket while you were still drunk! :)

Three responses in a row to one post, thats gotta be a record....

USA will not get WC 2010 games. Blatter introduced the "rotating WC" that goes to each continent in sucession. N. America is up in 2014, and Mexico is first in line. That leaves the USA in line for around 2034-38. I'll almost be 60!!!!!

Not only will Africa get the 2010 games, SOUTH America will get the 2014 games. By then, it will be time for UEFA to get the world cup back on the European track - probably England in 2018. North America has a good chance in 2022 with Mexico, Canada and USA as most likely, with long shots with a joint Central American or Carribean proposal.

I hate being the pessimist, but the rest of the world does not revolve around the US. Just ask Japan or France. :)

I wouldn't have had to drive so soon if it weren't for Ben who drove a total of 1 hour shift right after Dereks graveyard shift.

Hey now, no reason to bring me into this! I will say in my defense that it was for two hours, and it was the worst two hours. I drove from eastern Iowa to Des Moines from 4-6PM. Give a guy a break. :)
