Oh what the hell, this will probably need it's own thread eventually anyway. So the reason I started it now is because I was looking for a place to ask the following interesting but stupid question: Where the hell are the Wizards playing the USOC this year? Does the scheduling work with CAB or will this be at BVNW again? Our qualifier is actually coming right up, isn't it? Gotta be between May 7 and June 10, right?
Shouldnt we host since we are the higher seed? I would think we could host the game at CAB if the T-Bones arent playing.
No because last year LA hosted NY after playing C-bus, also if we'd have beaten RSL we'd have hosted CO. So maybe we could host the game if we were going to host CO last year. I just have my doubts. http://www.usopencup.com/1995/2007usoc/219552.html
Course it looks like I'm proven wrong: http://www.kansascity.com/news/neighborhood/olathe/story/607861.html Although that could just be the site the Wizards are going to use in their bid to host that game.
I think its code for Xtra CAB Viewing. That or it's the 95th year of the tournament, too busy to research at the moment though.
Ah. Well, KC not good away in the USOC and only middling at home excusing of course the miracle home run to lift the Cup as Garcia ran down the sideline with someone's big blue flag... Let's hope for a home game. We can probably count on the blue tops and white shorts combo Coach is fond of as well.
IF LA wins there Open Cup match do you think they will (have to) consider another location? "Come See Backham play your Kansas City Wizards in a high school stadium!" hm, this could get interesting.
Imagine how bad that would be if they advertise the hell out of it with pictures of Beckham on billboards, thousands of unsuspecting non-soccer "fans" show up to see the guy play (or do whatever it is that got them curious enough to buy a ticket), and.....oops....he stubs his toe on bad turf the week before, can't play, so sorry. That would be unfortunate.* *.....for those thousands of unsuspecting non-soccer "fans", that is.
Harrisburg did something similar last year. They started pumping up the fact that their team "could" see Beckham in the US Open Cup. Not that their team was going to, but that they COULD play Beckham. Don't know how that worked for them, but it's been done.
This year is still cup #95... 1914 - 2008 is 94 years, but they played one in year zero (1914) so you end up with an extra one. (right?)
I took it from this quote off the link Kopite provided: "Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual U.S. Open Cup is entering it's 94th tournament." I don't know... you could read it either way.
hahaha, funny story... back in my freshman year of college, i used to always tease my roommate that he had a mancrush on robert stack. one night, he had already gone to bed and i was still up playing some ps2 with another friend. out of the blue, and still in his sleep, he just utters "rrrrrobert stack." my friend and i just looked at each other and have never let him forget it. he thinks we made it up. good stuff.
Re: How difficult is it Not being a regular poster I may be posting this in the wrong place. If so, please move as appropriate. Thought I'd mention that a flyer is circulating in the Shawnee Mission School District today that the Wizards will be playing their Open Cup game v Galaxy or Rapids on June 4th, 7 PM, at Shawnee Mission North Stadium. High School students (and reportedly SMSD employees) with a valid SMSD ID get in free. Those with an ID can buy additional tickets for $15 each. I was emailed a copy of the flyer just this morning. The thought of David Beckham playing, coached by Ruud Gullit, at SM North makes me smile for some reason.
