Kei scores for Montreal, and it was a classic Kei breakaway goal, then added two assists. He's 39?

Even a marginally decent season would put him third all-time for MLS goals. Absolutely rooting for him!

Transfermarket says he's 37. So to answer my question, no, he is not 39

Oh, 39 did sound really old, but I figured you asked it as a question to be dramatic, not to seek information. :)

Last summer I went to the community pool one day and Kei was there with his family. That is one of the most fit people I have ever seen in my life. Even as far as soccer players go. Even as far as 20-something-year-old soccer players go. I cannot even imagine his workout routine or his nutritional plan, but the fact that he looked like that when he wasn't even attached to a club? Say what you will about Kei, that guy takes Sporting Fit seriously.

And what I've always said about Kei is that he's brilliant. I know there's a much bigger long term to bringing in Vujnovic(?), but I would have liked to see us add Kei for a season as a Pulido replacement. OTOH, might not have been what he was looking for. He's now scored for 9 MLS clubs, that's pretty cool, and Montreal is a cool place to live. I always root for him, though.

Looks like Martins is joining Vancouver.

A much deserved honor for a player that is still my favorite Wizard.

Agreed completely, Arnaud 100% deserves this.

On the Sporting Legends topic, I think there's only 1 "Wizards" player left that even should be considered to go in, Garcia. But he's going to have a tough time getting in over the next few years with Feilhaber, Besler, and Sinovic all coming available along with Espinoza, Zusi, and Melia coming up some time in the not too distant future as well.

I’m a bit confused here. Bunbury is 17 and is disappointed by not getting a mls contract? So, he leaves SKC and signs with USL side Birmingham? Is that a better path to a professional career than continuing his development at SKC with the likelihood of a contract further down the road?

USL is developing a record of getting some young players to Europe, like the kid that just went to France.

Even better than the record of MLS teams sending young players to Europe?

Probably not, but if he wants to go abroad at 18, isn’t getting a first team contract from SKC but is getting the offer for a first team contract elsewhere I’d take the first team contract. Can’t guarantee he’ll be a hit, but given the roster space KC had available to them and his pedigree this feels like a miss for KC.

Doesn't the contract length also steer some kids to USL? MLS typically is a 2 year guarantee plus 2 "club option" years. If you don't get playing time or European teams don't want to pay big transfer fees (the small transfer fee's aren't being taken because it's not worth it to the MLS clubs) you stay in the US for longer than you'd wanted. USL is giving shorter term contracts with hopes of using the development pipeline to Europe as a selling point to young players. I thought that's what Diego Luna would do after leaving San Jose academy to join El Paso, but he ended up signing with RSL so what do I know.

One question I wondered, does SKC get anything if Mateo ends up getting an MLS offer from someone else? I assume they retain some sort of "rights" ... maybe HG rights to the player?

That never ends up being good enough money for what you lost if the player turns out to be special, but it's "something".

HGP rights last until a player signs their first pro contract. So him signing with Birmingham would eliminate the HGP rights.

No, I mean "player rights". I think what you're stating is a rule that prevents SKC from signing him to a HG deal (which is fine) but I don't think he can sign for another first team MLS contract unless someone gives us $AM for his "rights". Maybe I'm way off though.

I listened to the podcast Shades of Blue with Ilie Sanchez. Classy guy, but we all knew that. The statement that I really zeroed in on was about coaching. He said that Steve Cherundolo at LAFC is the smartest coach he ever played for. I really wonder where he would rank PV on that list.

Good for him! Hopeful his career will really start to flourish, as being a better team in Serie B is a much better growth environment than a bad team getting whooped in a higher league, in my estimation. Really hopeful that a brilliant first half of the season puts him in WC contention.

Also kind of glad he's not coming back. He's not the fix we need, and I'd like him to keep his nostalgic glow!
