Heres a thread that will get our minds off of you know what. So if anybody has any encounters they want to share feel free to share.
Do you mean seeing a player in public? If so, I got to have dinner with Nick Garcia at a pizza place. He's a very personable guy. He said he wants to go into nuclear science when he retires from soccer.
During the 2003 season we scored in the papa john's magic minutes. I think is was against dallas. Later that night I saw Bo getting some free pizzas at the papa john's on westport rd.
I ran into Kerry and Josh at the airport last December. I was the ONLY person in the whole airport who knew who they were.
I ran into Justin Gorman at KCI with the USOC trophy the day after the final.... Oh.. Wrong type of Wizards sighting. On a serious note, though, I got to see Josh Wolff and Kerry Zavagnin after the USA-Panama qualifier. Quite nice. Also, a buddy of mine and I spent 30 minutes talking to Chris Klein after that same Papa John's goal in 2003 at the Papa John's on State Line. I suppose I won't get into my Freddy Adu sightings.
What, he lives off Delmar, too? I met Chris Klein in high school, a friend of mine (female) had a crush so we had to go where he was. I met Yari Allnut in Rochester. I met Mark Santel. Did he play for the Wizards or retire instantly after he was traded? '
-Good point. -I've recently returned to KC (but still miss the Loop)(-and coindicently, now live one block off of Delmar in KC).
Peter Vermes plays in the same over 30 rec league I do. Played against him a couple of weeks ago. Really nice on and off the field. Talkative. All over the place on the field and helping his mates -- looks to pass when he could score. Then, of course, they were beating us. 5-0 was the final score.
I must just pick the right places to go because I see the guys everywhere. Meola at Cold Stone in Town Center, Klein at AMC 20, Kerry EVERYWHERE. I see him in Brookside, on the Plaza, out to lunch. One day Kerry was at a restaurant and was sitting all by himself. :-( I didn't see him until we were walking to the car and I saw him through the window. It seems that the guys like ice cream a lot because I've seen Kerry at Cherries, Cold Stone, Foos...
Dude what team you play for? I play in that league too for Guinness (Blue Team). It is funny how that team stacks their team every year with players like Vermes, Chris Duke and Jon Parry. They even had Paul Rideout one year. LOL. But they are all great guys and fun to play against. They even had Paul Rideout one year. LOL I use to work out in Rehab for my knee with klein and Meola every other day for month. Klein and I spent a lot of time talking as we were always working out on the same stations for our knees. Meola I talked to a few times too but he was working his a$$ off trying to get the achilles better so he could play before the Open Cup finals so he didn't talk as much.
Not much of an encounter but I saw Diego by Longview in Lee's Summit a few months ago. We were both at a four way stop, I believe I stopped halfway through the intersection to see if it was him.
I play for Newcastle. We usually wear the orange. We have had some games this year where we were wearing black jerseys. I usually play right back -- sometimes in the midfield. In orange, I'm #23. I wear regular glasses. I have had a tough time playing this year. I have been struggling with a leg muscle strain and a chest cold that won't go away. Not been a fun season this time around because of those things. My first name is Paul -- not to be confused with our sometimes keeper Paulie.
Hilarious - My team plays your team tomorrow night. I play for KC International - I'll be the 6'2" running maniac that will either be playing d, left or right mid, or forward, depending on where the need is that game. When everyone else has stopped running, I'll be the one still running! lol. See you tomorrow evening.
Just don't run me over. I'm old [43]. And I had never played soccer until a year ago. Let's have some fun out there. It is a rec league after all.
So, what number were you wearing? I was number 12 as the right back. I was wearing eyeglasses. I was the one who ducked a hard pass that was going straight for my face in the second half. You guys are a very good team. But we gave you a game for the most part.
I have a friend on your team Hartley. New guy this year named Ward. I coach his son. I will look for you next time we play.
