PALATINE, IL The Winter BBSL kicked off on Friday night at Soccer City with a set of closely played games, an indication that the competitive balance in the league may have become more level. However, the reigning teams from the last session began the session like they ended the last won by winning their matches.

MORELOS 3 DA COACHES 0: In a well played match, both clubs played a physical but competitive match as both goalkeepers were kept busy keeping goals out of the net from the beginning. Just before halftime, Guzman got an unassisted goal to put Morelos in the lead. Coaches continued to threaten throughout the 2nd half, but goals by Delgado and Guzman sealed the match and gave Goya the first shutout of the session.

    MOR Guzman (unassisted) 18
    MOR Delgado (Guzman) 28
    MOR Guzman (unassisted) 35

Goalkeepers: MOR: Goya (40 minutes, 0 GA). COA: Pruim (40 minutes, 3 GA)

    Penalties: NONE

VORTEX UNITED 4 INTER KOMRADES 3: In one of the closest Golden Pitcher matches in quite a while, Inter kept the pressure on VU all night, thanks to a needed infusion of new players, and getting an opportunity to face a club missing keeper Matt Harrison. Younger brother Jeff took over in the nets and did a fine job in his place. While newcomer Bill Harris scored twice for Inter, John Koenue, who scored a hat trick and assisted on another to send his team to victory, dominated the game.

    VOR Koenue (unassisted) 14
    KOM Harris (unassisted) 17
    VOR Zrizdich (Koenue) 19
    VOR Koenue (unassisted) 24
    KOM Harris (unassisted) 33
    VOR Koenue (Zrizdich) 38

Goalkeepers: VOR: J. Harrison (40 minutes, 2 GA), KOM: Fisher (40 minutes, 4 GA)

    Penalties: Harris (KOM), blue 33
    Quigley (VOR), blue 34

BOOZEHOUNDS 3 SONS OF STOITCHKOV 4: The reconstitiuted Boozehounds reentered the league against Fall champions SOS and nearly pulled off the upset. After going down 3-1 half way in the 2nd half,, Boozehounds came back with two goals from Costello and Zeus to tie the game up. Their defense would keep them in the match and give them hope. Still, the reigning champs traditionally find a way to win and Doug Ferguson would score his 2nd goal of the match in the 39th minute to send SOS to another win.

    BOO J. Harrison (Jaramillo) 9
    SOS Ferguson (Sajkovic) 11
    SOS Reid (A. Mihaljevic) 12
    SOS Reid (unassisted) 24
    BOO Costello (Jaramillo) 27
    BOO Zeus (unassisted) 28
    SOS Ferguson (unassisted) 39

Goalkeepers: BOO: Banzac (40 minutes, 4 GA). SOS: I. Mulac (40 minutes, 3 GA)

    Penalties: NONE

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: There are plenty of players worthy of the award. Morelos’ keeper Goya with his shutout, SOS’ Doug Ferguson’s game winning goal got consideration but the winner is John Koenue for his 7-point night in VU’s win.

  2. Why don't you put up league diciplinary stats. At least that's something you'd lead in. ;)

Is there a reason that this is on the MLS, Chicago Fire forum?

Just because one of the teams is named Stoichkov, does that mean it relates?

It's not the "Stoitchkov" that relates it to the forum. It's the "BB" in "BBSL." This is the Barn Burners Soccer League... a league made up of Fire fans.

If you're not interested, feel free to skip this thread from now on.

    Week 2 Results

PALATINE – Week 2 of the 2003 Winter BBSL Championship had hats galore, a shutout and a fall of one of last week’s leaders.

SONS OF STOITCHKOV 9 – INTER KOMRADES 2: Improving Komrades were unable to stand up to the onslaught of Fall champions SOS in the first match of the evening. Bob Marvin and Doug Ferguson both scored hat tricks in the match to keep their record perfect, while I. Mulac continued his find defense in goal. Dan Klest and Bill Harris would answer back in the losing record.

MORELOS 3 – VORTEX UNITED 0 – In a match that was not as close as it seemed on paper, Morelos kept VU on their heels throughout the match, then sunk the knife in late for the victory. Behind 1-0 at halftime, Vortex did the best effort to hold off the Morelos offensive onslaught but were unable to get any offence going, which would be fatal to their hopes. Matt Harrison played a stellar match in goal, but his efforts were matched by Morelo’s Goya, who registered his second consecutive clean sheet.

DA COACHES 5 – BOOZEHOUNDS 3: Boozehounds were stunned early by the strike partnership of Christian Jimenez and Matt Schmidt as Coaches get their first win of the session. Jimenez would pull off a hat trick in 10 minutes to give his club a lead they would never relinquish. Zeus would score twice for Boozehounds, as they join Komrades at the bottom of the table.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jimenez for his offensive feat outpaced Matt Harrison, Marvin and Ferguson’s performances to win this week’s award.

PALATINE, IL – The last two weeks of the BBSL have seen a lot of excelant matches, including the biggest upset of the 2002-03 seasons. As the league heads for the halfway point, it is clear that nobody can take anyone for granted anymore, making for a very competitive league.

Morelos continues to lead the Winter Championship, but Sons of Stoitchkov and Vortex united are hot on their heels, waiting for them to stumble to take the advantage.

    WEEK 3 REVIEW:

COACHES 6 – KOMRADES 4: Da Coaches continue to ride on the shoulders of their young striker line of Christian Jimenez and Matt Schmidt as they defeated Inter Komrades. After getting his hat trick in Week 2, Jimenez returned the favor to Schmidt to help him get a hat trick. Komrades goals were scored on flukes. John Schulz scoring accidentialy off of a header and Dan Klest scoring a go right at the buzzer of the first half.

He was shut out, while SOS returned to form to get the win. Bob Marvin and Mate Mulac both scored two goals in the win. On a negative note, SOS was carded twice in the match, making them far and away the leaders in the bad boy category this season. PALATINE, IL – The Winter BBSL indoor season moved toward the half-way point
with some indications that a changing of the guard may be having. Sons of
Stoitchkov were trounced by Morelos while Vortex United squeaked by Da
Coaches to take a solid hold on 2nd place. Meanwhile, Inter Komrades won
their first game of the season as they downed winless Boozehounds.

MORELOS 6 – SONS OF STOITCHKOV 2: Matches between these two teams are
usually rough and this match was no exception. Missing a major chunk of
their roster, SOS held on for most of the 1st half until Arizemeni scored
what proved to be the winning goal of the match. Tensions flaired several
minutes later as SOS’ Bob Marvin and Morelos’ Munil got into near
fisticuffs, earning both a red card. SOS was unable to get their heads back
in the match and Morelos, behind two goals by Delgado and Gabriel, ran out
    easy winners.

INTER KOMRADES 5 – BOOZEHOUNDS 4 – In a game between the winless clubs in
the league, Komrades dominated the match on both ends to get their first win
of the session. Strong games by Dan Klest and Bill Yerkes (2 goals each)
and a fine job by newcomer Ginsburg carried the rapidly improving side up
the standings. Jullian Jaramillo scored twice in his team’s losing effort.

the first half, but strong defense and disrupting play in the midfield was
enough to keep Da Coaches off the scoresheet, while goals by John Koeune
and Scott Steiner sent the men in black to the win. Koeune and Jeff Harrison

    WEEK 6

PALATINE, IL - The current story arcs in the Winter BBSL championship continued to run true to form last Friday night. Morelos are looking more and more like the probable champions, yet to drop a single standings point in the session. Sons of Stoitchkov, meanwhile, have their longest winless streak since they were known as Stinking Wild Onions. The streak was to the benefit of Vortex United, who have solidly emerged as the challengers to Morelos, but they still need to do some winning before they get the top spot in the table.

SONS OF STOITCHKOV 1 - BOOZEHOUNDS 1: Missing Bob Marvin, sitting out the match due to suspension, SOS struggled again, with only a goal by Sajkovic in the 2nd half giving them the draw against bottom feeders Boosehounds. The 'hounds took the lead from a goal by Zeus just before halftime and managed to hang on despite an onslaught of shots that somehow stayed out of goal. For Boozehounds, it was their first positive result of the season.

MORELOS 7 - DA COACHES 2: Morelos kept up their blistering pace in this season as they burried Coaches. Gabriel scored 4 goals in the match, sending him to a share in the scoring table with fellow teammate Delgado, who scored twice. Coaches' only bright spot came from Matt Schmidt, who scored a goal and assist in the losing effort.

VU continued to show off its adeptability on defense as they continue to lead the league with the least goals allowed. Fire different VU players scored in the match and Jeff Harrison logged not only the shutout, but also a goal on a free kick.
