Good point. I'm getting a little sick of the derailing of threads though. Anyhow, Winnipeg's first PDL season will be a sight to see, does anybody know if there are any plans for games to be broadcast locally?

Can anyone from the area describe the Waverley Soccer Centre? I can't find information on line. Thanks.

PS Mods, can you please jump in on the bickering on this thread?

I don't think the mods pay attention to the Canada forum.

  5. Sometimes the best policy is just to shake your head, laugh and walk away from some of these people, Czech Soccer. Anyone who knows the game a bit can see that Badescu has a very flimsy resume in pro soccer terms. Maybe worth bearing in mind though that some of the world's best coaches had very marginal playing careers so not really fair to judge him on that alone. Have you seen him in action as a coach? Is he highly though of locally or is he viewed as a marginal figure who is using an investment in a PDL franchise as a way to be top dog locally?

Flimsy relative to who exactly? We're talking about a PDL (amateur) team here BBTB, his resume stacks up just fine compared to all of the former College and Youth team coaches in that league.

There are a few exceptions of course, guys like Carl Valentine in Ottawa, but he's in his 50's and been coaching since the mid-90's. Duncan Wilde has some pro experience, the guy in Dayton was an Ajax youth coach...other than that there's a whole lot of guys coaching PDL most people wouldn't know about unless they've been involved in that local soccer scene.

I know more then you care to know regarding this and more then I could post here,okay...I guess the saying to "sell the sizzle and no the steak",has got to be the motto of soccer in Canada, because that is all everybody is doing.

  8. Can definitely guess at what the issues are likely to be based on those comments. Hopefully they get things right off the field this time. Things have worked out quite well in London and Victoria with PDL with both those franchises talking about taking the next step up to USL Pro or the NASL so if WSA can attract a regular four figure crowd the finances should be there to get the coaching position sorted out if Badescu isn't up to competing with Thunder Bay and Des Moines and maybe get some players on pro contracts as well (which is possible in PDL as long as you don't use any NCAA scholarship players).

I've deleted a number of unreasonably argumentative non-productive posts.

At this moment in time, we have at least three threads that have become mired in rude and useless drivel and cheap shots.

It's possible to disagree and even argue without resorting to juvenile insults and ridicule.

Let's make an effort to do that.

On our team's website we have a page describing the stadium with a seating plan. There will be some renovations and improvements before the season kicks off.

Eduardo had that website going for years as World Soccer Academy.

    As far as the fields.

    MSA had them covered with artificial turf a couple of years ago,because no one would groom grass there properly.Originally,there was grass for the 1999 PanAm games.{they still don't play there in winter,just in the summer}

Now,Winnipeg has no natural grass fields in the entire city to play competative soccer on,except Red River College facility with 2 fields.

Everything else is and /or will be artificial turf.

Just wikipedia'd the stadium, 10,000 capacity? AWESOME.

@Aroundtheworld: Will WSA be playing on the natural grass field?

Please don't bring the CMISL into things...just leave it out.

I play the indoor boarded "soccer" at College, because I wasn't able to get in with a futsal club this season. It's a fun game that is kind of like soccer, in certain ways, it's good for fitness, passing, and dribbling. It's still not comparable to futsal for actual winter training in soccer terms.

But yeah, just don't bring up the CMISL. It's not soccer.

Surprised, some association sanctioned that as a form of soccer...certainly,FIFA doesn't list anything like this as an official form of the game.
