That was a golazo. But after that he just did not look good.

I mean that was so so long ago and certainly others faultered in between. It's wild how much leeway Lerma has been given.

Lerma plays in one of the best leagues in the World. That helps.

Yes, but he wanders around getting in his teammates way most of the time on the NT.

He has his ups and downs just like any player.
He was one of our best players in the Copa America though. Scored some big goals and was solid. It would be nice if he can play like that for us again but we shall see.

I mean Sebastian Gomez got called up and was in 2nd division Brazil…. So barrios def made someone mad.

I personally like Lerma. Def much more than Barrios but neither are good enough offensively and hope a better DM emerges in the near future or at least gets a chance.

Yes. That was my point. Something must have happened off the field for someone as patient and loyal as Lorenzo to take Barrios off the board entirely for a window this long.

It may not be something that happened off the field. It just may be the combination that he does not fit into his tactics, his style is not what he likes at the position and he plays in a League that is not that great.

we'll never truly know unless someone here has a friend with the inside chisme...

i feel like i white knighted Uribe more often who i felt overstayed his welcome in games prior to and during the 2024 copa america. meanwhile Barrios was keeping things together during the 2022 cycle more than others and just faded away after that Uruguay game that @HomietheClown remembers well. that's the story with any team - new coach comes in and someone gets frozen out that's kinda questionable. Pekerman did it with Guarin while relying on Roca - Mejia - Abel - Mac20 - Abel

While i like Lerma, i think we could have benefitted by having Barrios this cycle as cover/depth ahead of someone like Castano - especially during the last 6 friendlies when Lerma had nothing to prove...

Castano was awesome up until the Copa America final. After that for club/country he was bad.

That is another reason why Lorenzo strayed away from Barrios.

I will contend what you said by mentioning that he looked pretty good against Uruguay in the Semi. There was one play in particular in which he should have had an assist and Uribe blew his chance.

in the spirit of full disclosure, Castano also had the asist in the lone goal where we tied Argentina 1-1 in June 2025; the fact we dropped points that game once the game became 11 vs 10 to our advantage is another story...

    All to blame in lucumi....

I think lucumi was maybe of the wors statrters in wcq...like 4 mistakes that leads to goals of other teams...contributing for lose pointq

I was thinking the same thing.
Diaz did 99% of the heavy lifting in that scoring sequence.
