Both of the German-Americans get the start. Fabian is back from injury.

Interesting, as they are both nominally listed as central, defensive mids in a 4-2-3-1 for this match:

    From Kicker:

    Aufstellung:

    Haas - Beck , Vorsah , Compper , Braafheid - Johnson , Williams - Roberto Firmino , Sigurdsson , Babel - Ibisevic

I know Williams has been generally viewed as a DM, but I thought Johnson was seen as a more offensive player.

Nearly the ultimate Yank squad in the Bundesliga. Damn the immigration rules.
    Johnson, William, Ibisevic

0-0 HT. I like what I am seeing from Johnson. He is causing the defense some problem from the LM. Williams was more involved early, linking up well with Johnson on a early. He was more of LCM role. Had some problem with my feed, when I got it back, was playing a deeper role on the right.

Williams is a true "6". He is sitting back in front of the defense.

Johnson is a linking "8" but Hoffenheim is playing a ton of long diagonal balls today, trying to go over Borussia's Double-Six. (which incidentally is a very defensive formation, as BMG's goals against attest)

PS. 'Gladbach is a totally different team under Favre than it was under Frontzeck. How the latter got hired I'll never know.

You and me both. Think Bradley would fit into that midfield?

He was supposedly the protege/second coming of Hans Meyer. Which he clearly wasn't, in hindsight.

    Not sure.

MGM is pairing Wendt with Neustädter today.

PS. Tore - Fabian "I don't dive, Herr Jürgen" Johnson whiffs, Ibicevic toe-pokes it in.

Johnson jumping up to avoid a potential ankle breaking tackle. Gladbach player gets yellow.

Johnson is going forward even more in the second half and, off Stanislawski's instructions, it seems that Williams will sit back more centrally.

This is a rough match - a lot of contact, a lot of fouls. It's hard for the offensive players to look good consistently today.

BTW, I am on Sopcast Ch. 114023 - 1.4K stream.

But you have to bear with a lame Russian commentary.

    Fab is off.

Favre, for some reason, is keeping Hanke in.

Johnson off at 67th minute. Good performance today, considering he hasn't played in a month

The announcer says all BMG forwards are hurt - de Camargo and Bobadilla.

All they have on the bench is Josh King.

Thorb Marx is in for Roman N. Hanke's still in. Reus moves to the right flank.

Hanke, utterly useless, is finally out.

The announcer says Johnson is given an assist with his butt.

    Added time now.
