You can't have too many of these threads.

Bill Clinton electrifies a British Labor Party conference with a more sweeping vision for global peace and progress than the current president has been able to muster.

The speech, which ranged from Africa to Iraq to his differences with Bush conservatism, was hailed in the Guardian as the work "of a true political master ... At times, it was as if Mr. Clinton was calling on Mr. Blair to rescue America from Bushism ... What a speech. What a pro. And what a loss to the leadership of America and the world." The Mirror was even more exuberant: "It was a magnificent speech from a man who is rapidly becoming the greatest figure in world politics, second only, perhaps, to Nelson Mandela."

I'll make the Brits a deal: They keep Clinton, we take Thatcher, and everyone goes home happy.

Can we at least merge the two threads (or is it three now)?

I realize GringoTex and superdave like Clinton, but this is overkill.

Oh, by the way, Chris Simms sucks.

What's that old saying? "Here I sit, cheeks-a-flexin', givin' birth to another Texan."

I don't even know what this means. You have to distill it before you can drink it, Gringo.

If Clinton is such a genius on World Affairs, why did he fail with the Israel-Palestinian question? skrew up on Bin Laden and terrorism? let the weapons inspection stop and not push to have them resumed in Iraq? not push for the Kyoto treaty?

I'm not much of a fan of Bush but really, Clinton is and always was all talk and little action. The only action he was good at was pulling down his zipper.

    In order:

    1. Are you really prepared to blame one President of the United States for the violence in the Middle East? I'd personally say he did a hell of a lot towards bringing peace to the region, but the people who have to live there kinda screwed it all up.

    2. When Clinton bombed an al-Qaeda camp, the Republicans accused him of wagging the dog. They caught the guys who did the '93 bombing and put them in jail.

    3. The weapons inspections were UN-mandated. You can certainly argue that Clinton didn't do enough to keep them on track, but Chirac, Blair, Annan et al are just as much to blame as Clinton that the weapons inspections stopped

    4. Clinton and Gore did push for the Kyoto treaty. They obviously didn't push hard enough, but they certainly showed more respect for it than the current president.

    5. Nice cheap shot. If you're no fan of Bush, I fully expect a cocaine joke forthcoming.

Hey, it was your idea to bring her over here. It's not my fault if that triggers erotic fantasies in Arkansas lesbians seeking some quality Maggie-time.

Hey, no problem. I already knew liberals were unorganized and needed several threads to try and make a point.

I didn't get the laughtrack part. I was going to say that nothing funny has come out of Texas in years, but then UT played Oklahoma St. this weekend, and that was almost funny.

They mustn't have noticed the "State" after "Oklahoma".
