A recent CNN/SI interview of Bruce Almighty indicated that he won't call in Friedel and Keller for next month's Confederations Cup. That obviously creates openings for some other GKs and it's a safe bet to assume Timmy Howard will get one of them. But what of the other? An educated guess has it come down to Lil' Nicky and Adin Brown (with Hartman and Thornton as long shots). Has anyone heard anything regards to Rimando being called up for the Confed Cup? If Bruce picks Rimando, obviously United will be without him for 2-3 games. (I don't know how many, exactly.) If that happens, Doug Warren will be thrown to the fire. In anticipation of this possibility is DCU doing anything to get Warren sharp like getting him some games with an A-League team?
Warren is getting plenty of reps. First, the team doesn't have a regular 3rd GK. Second, right now, Warren is with the U-23 side. They just played Mexico in Mexico.
i wouldn't worry, i think cannon <being in the off-season in france> will be brought in as the second keeper behind howard.
Rimando had a solid game against Tottenham Hotspur, making one spectacular save on a free kick. While I would love Rimando to go to the USA National team as much as possible, in this particular instance (club before country, specially considering the dire situation DC United is in right now) I hope it's Brown.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's Brown. And that also helps us b/c NE loses him. Also, maybe may memory is going but I got the impression from the SI IV with Arena that Rimando isn't out of the picture.
Tell me, Joe, just how many minutes did Warren get with the 23s against Mexico? Doug is in the same place with the 23s he's in with United - stuck behind a very good, young GK.
I will bet my life savings that Rimando won't be called in. Surely I'm not the only one that gets nervous every time a cross goes into DC's box...
Based on one bad game this season? I always thought Cannon was overrated. After Friedel, Keller, and Howard, Rimando is probably the 4th best keeper available in the US. That said, I also think Rimando is a known quantity for Bruce and that there's little gained by calling him in to sit the bench in a competition Bruce holds as less important than the Gold Cup. As a US fan, I say bring in Cannon and Brown and let them get some time. And as a DC fan, I really hope that's what happens. Warren is good, but he's not seeing any game action. We still haven't officially signed Jorge Geddes, so our backup at the moment is a field player.
Are you saying he's 4th best? Or 7th best (Friedel, Keller, Howard, XX, XX, XX, Rimando.) Because I think Brown and Meola are definitely better today. Rimando might have more upside than his peers (Cannon, Hartman, et al), but I don't think it's very likely he'll get the call.
He's had one Terrible game and several OK games. His reaction saves are excellent, but his distribution and handling of crosses is quite suspect this season.
