I think the hype surrounding Beckham is over the top... People talks about him like he was a greatest player ...

Beckham name + $250 million = That doesn't sound good

People expect him to be what he is not...

This guy is NOT a fancy tricky skilled player, he's not Ronalinho... He's not fast, he's not flashy, he's not skillful. Make no mistakes.
Most american people who know nothing about soccer trully believe that Beckham is the Jordan of soccer.

That's why I'm so scared about all this hype, because if he is not good. american media will destroy him.

Beckham signing is not about him being the best players in MLS, its about the exposure of the league and the rest of its players. Remember, even if Becks fails, he pays for himself.

    Nice.

Most everyone I've spoken to feels badly about Beckham moving over here, and still can't wrap their heads around almost $1M a week. But I'm in a crowd of mostly cynics, so that could explain all the negativity.

I'm excited to see what will happen.

I know he's not about him being the best player but the way MLS wants to market him is insane, did you hear that Garber compared Beckham to Jordan ???

    That's right.
I don't know if it's good for the sponsors that there's so much attention from the rest of the world but normally overhere (Holland) there's never one minute waisted on US soccer. Only Romario last season. And now the papers are full of compliments about the MLS

I am not going to translate the whole artical, but to give a short translation: They say MLS is a respectable mature Soccer League and far better and more solid than the NASL, an average crowd of 15000, well the positive blah, blah goes on and one, good structure this, good management that, etc...etc... They also mention the GREAT amount of players that where educated in the States.
It's the first time the Dutch Media said something like this about the MLS. Quit funny, because Soccermagazine "Voetbal international" Chief Editor Johan Derksen always received laughter when he was the only who said that MLS is not that bad and could compete with a lot of Eredivisie teams! Now a lot of newspapers come with the same story.

When news came out that Ronald Waterreus signed for Red Bulls media where surprised and now this attitude is changed.

I think the exposure of your league is already having a big international boost.
