The way the Galaxy is playing I dont know how they can sell more than 10k tickets after the first game. I bet you there might be 20k for the debut and it will drop like a rocket after.

will they even sell out the first game??

don't get me wrong, i think the HD center has a great future. The galaxy needs to have friendlies with teams like America and Chivas and those 2 games are guaranteed sellouts. Probably any game against a mexican team is a sell out. Also schedule friendlies against central american teams (FAS)

but this makes another good point. Will the galaxy only sell out the stadium for friendlies against mexican teams and such?

one thing is for certain, Champions Cup games will be big

It'll sell out on July 4, that's a given. We might see a couple sellouts due to novelty/curiousity, but I do have this feeling that there will be empty pockets throughout the season.

You can still get tickets. I just looked on Ticketmaster and you can get 8 tickets together in section 128. This is what came up as "best available." Same section came up for 4 tickets as well. My guess is that it may sell out, but not until the week before the game.

Yeah, I figured it wasn't sold out. I would expect a mention on the Galaxy website if it is already.

Although, it looks like the most expensive seats are already almost gone, and I did check for best available upper deck seats and it looks like the last two sections on the north and south side are the only sections available.

Look on the bright side: you're playing the Crapids in your opener, and even in your current disorganized state, you should be able to beat them a few times over.

So curiosity seekers will likely see you win, which could inspire them to come back for future games.

The front office is so stupid. How can they charge those prices and have the average fan attend on a regular basis. I hope the game doesn't sell out that will send a message to them. How many celebs in L.A. even care about soccer. LOWER THE PRICES for the real soccer fans and they will come.

umm look at the G's attendance over their history :/

Their walk-up has always been high as well.

the attendace will lead MLS by 2000 at least

Part of the problem may be Galaxy HQ's continued practice of stealth marketing. I had hoped it would break out of that with Victoria Street, but apparently not yet given the relatively low media coverage. Nonetheless, they still have two weeks and I have to think it will be a sell out, if not the blame is squarely on Galaxy HQ.

I may not attend any Galaxy games this season.

Ticket prices are ridiculous, considering that the Galaxy DID NOT average 20k last season. I'm pretty sure the cheapest tickets available are still more expensive than Riot Squad tickets were last season. I'm on a student budget and can't afford it. Add to that the fact that games have moved away from the Rose Bowl and the stadium is no longer 15 minutes away by bus and foot or 25 minutes away by bike, and it means the Galaxy is losing my business, at least for the next couple seasons. I might reconsider if I see any tickets available for under $20 that aren't in the nosebleed sections.

Lots of ignorance on this thread.
Ticket prices are not ridiculous. They went up. That's what happens when someone spends $100 million to build a new stadium. So the starving student won't go to a game anymore. But for every starving student from the SF Valley who doesn't go, there will be a family of four from the South Bay who will.
Wright, you're from DC and like Chicago. How's the padded cell these days?
DouginSJ, anyone from SJ talking about attendance needs to shut up. LA has more season tickets sold than you guys are averaging per game. Piss off.
And Lond, why should the Galaxy have friendlies against Mexican/CA teams? How does that build a fan base? Next you're going to tell me the Galaxy needs to sign a big name Mexican player to get people to come out.
Like I said, plenty of ignorance.

Friendlys with Toluca, Santos, Chivas or any other popular Mexican team would do wonders for fan support in the area. (I assume....I don't live in Cali)

I wish that could happen in Denver also.

Did someone wind the clock back to 1996???
Friendlies against Mexican/CA teams don't do shite to help develop a fan base. It puts money in the pocket of the visiting club and now AEG. The locals come out to see their old hometown teams and then they go home and watch Telemundo. The attendance for Mexican club friendlies here in LA have continued to dwindle over the past few years. Nobody cares.

Is it true that there will be no tailgating or alcohol allowed in the parking lots before or after the matches? To raise ticket prices is understandable but to remove the beer and BBQ from the games is un-american. You guys must be very pissed off.

The reason I'm saying ticket prices are now ridiculous goes as follows: the Galaxy failed to average 20k when the most expensive tickets in the stadium went for $25. What makes anyone think that the Galaxy will frequently sell out 27,000 seats when $25 is now close to the low end of ticket prices???

I'm not going to get into it with you, but if you reread my post, you'll see that I wasn't talking attendance smack. No need to get nasty.

To be fair, the worst seat in the HD will be better than the best seat in the RB was.

(In Columbus, the furthest seat from the field is actually closer than the closest seat to the field in Ohio Stadium was).

Still, I agree that the extra add-on seats should have been cheaper than any seats they were selling up to then. Or they could sell season tix in that section for a discount. Or they could have standing-room tix. Get creative.

Take a page from Mark Cuban's book. Always offer *some* cheap tix. It doesn't have to be that many.

Uh, they just moved out of my backyard? I once walked to the Rose Bowl for a game. (~1 1/2 hours on foot, running about half of the way, but still...) Right now I'd be lucky to find transportation to the HDC for even one game this season, regardless of ticket prices.

And I still don't think it was appropriate to double ticket prices overall. Columbus sure as hell didn't do that. The demand's not there. For the third time I point out that the Galaxy didn't average 20k at the Rose Bowl with Rose Bowl ticket prices, and even if the view is better in the HDC it still doesn't justify the drastic increase. This season, Galaxy tickets are by far the most expensive in MLS. I don't know who made that decision, but I believe that once the novelty wears off the Galaxy will be hard-pressed to average 15k for the second half of the season.

Am I the only one here who's extremely unhappy about playing in a new stadium?

If you're unhappy about playing in the new stadium, then yes, you must be alone. You're not the only one that the Galaxy moved away from, but those who have to drive extra miles to get to Carson will still do so, albeit on a limited basis (5 or 10 game plans). What you're really unhappy with is the overall economics of going to a game and you're not alone there.
