Ok I know there are too many threads going on now, but this 2010 team really has got alot of attention. It started with the hype of the England game, and got more buzz with the Slovenia comeback and bad refereeing and then the last minute goal vs Algeria.

Do you think this was kind of a 'fad' or one off situation, or will the interest and excitement be there in 2014?

Could there be even more as the Brazil games will possibly be in prime time?

More attention because ESPN will do the same thing with coverage and we will likely have a tough draw with a top team. I can't see how we don't gain even more fans next time around. That being said, people didn't catch on until they thought that there was drama. So hopefully some sort of (positive) drama happens that the fans can latch onto.

if they play well and win...then they will get the attention of the american public.....if it's 3 and out, then they won't. it's that simple. Winning = attention.

    I agree.

We won 1 game (in the final minutes), tied 2 games and lost 1. Not really something that the average US sports fan is going to go crazy over.

I believe this was the year---Donovan was the big name and everyone in the US loves him.

Totally not trying to be a downer but we still have to qualify for 2014. If we qualify, then more attention I would guess.

We absolutely will get this much attention the next time around. Youve gotta give credit to ESPN for ramping up the marketing machine, and the US team for pulling out the results that help generated this much attention. People wont forget this WC. Remember that TV ratings for the US team have grown exponentially since the 98 tournament, and there no real reason to think they wont continue to (unless something stupid happens like not qualifying!)

I blame Sunsil for screw-up. We had long list players being unactive unfit coming out injuries, also, we had zero friendlies against African teams this year.

Of course it will be remember after the great run in 2002 how they cared in 2006. It will be the same in 2014 thats if ESPN still keep the right. The rights to broadcast FIFA events expires this year if I remember correctly. Last year before we could renew the rights to broadcast the Champions League FSC stole them from ESPN hope it doesn't happen again with FIFA events

The problem with keeping continued interest in the team is that CONCACAF is a completely crappy federation. If one of the new fans come out to a USA/MEX game (or CRC or HON depending on location), they'll get beer thrown on them by an "away" fan and wonder why in the world they bothered. If they come out to any of the other teams in CONCACAF, they'll see a terrible product on one side of the field. The only way I can see this level of interest being maintained is (a) BRA wins the WC, (b) USA somehow beats BRA in the August friendly, and (c) USSF builds a who's who of soccer powers to play friendlies. Otherwise it might be another four years.

And if it is, oh well. More room at the pub for me.

With all of the history we somewhat accomplished this year, it changed the way our nation looks at the sport. So yes, in 2014, I'm pretty sure the media is going to make the U.S. team look like we are out to get revenge, etc. If anything, we perhaps might even have 2x the support and fans.
