I wanted the joint Scotland and Ireland bid to host Euro 2008. With 2012 already having been awarded what are the chances of a joint Scotland and Ireland bid for 2016 ? Maybe they could throw Wales in there too.

I think these sides will have to prove that they can qualify for the tournament before they get free admission into it (via hosting).

Scotland hasn't qualified in over a decade, since '96... and Ireland hasn't qualified since 1988!

Virtually none, and definately no chance of all 3 getting a free pass to the finals.

Uefa rules say you need at least one five star stadium and seven 4-star stadia in at least 4 different cities

Scotland has Hampden and Ibrox which are 5-star stadiums and Murrayfield could be used but there's no need for a 30,000 seater stadium (minimum 4-star standard) outside of Edinburgh or Glasgow. In Ireland only Dublin has a stadium big enough i believe.

Well, with the limited number of countries that can actually host this thing, I doubt UEFA really cares.

Plus, if you want to think of it that way, future hosts Austria and Ukraine have NEVER qualified for a Euro championship, and Poland will be making their Euro debuts this year.

After the last debacle in Ireland, I'd prefer not, thanks.

I'm open for it. I think the biggest problem is the body of water between the two, but not really a big deal.

how in hells name are austria hosting this year's then?

scotland has three 5 star stadiums already.

hampden, ibrox and now celtic park(parkhead).

murrayfield would be used and there was talk of upgrading pittodrie in aberdeen and either easter road(hibs) or tynecaslte(hearts).

Trap will do a good job with Ireland, and I think help the bid if one is presented.

Care to prove that claim? Celtic Park was not even rated previously and while you have been undergoing redevelopment with the eventual aim of attaining Uefa's 5 star rating I have seen nothing that states it has been achieved.

    from UEFA's magazine.

    paragraph headed scottish hospitality.

as far as i can recall the 5 star was awarded after work was done to the changing rooms primarily.

In England you have Old Trafford, Anfield, St James Park, Stadium of Light, The Emirates, Stamford Bridge, Villa Park, White Hart Lane, and not to mention Wembley. No doubt I have missed some.

How can Scotland/Ireland host these competitions when you have together about four grounds that are up to scratch?

This is why England are trying to get the 2018 world cup..

this isn't about a world cup bid. it's about the EURO's. it isn't on the same scale as a world cup.

scotland already has 4 venues which are ready to host. work would need to be done on possibly another two venues such as pittodrie and tynecastle.

how many grounds were up to scratch the last time italy hosted the event before it began?

how many grounds are up to scratch in brazil for the next world cup at this minute in time?

that's why there's an allotted time frame to get everything ready. that would also include transport infrastructure, hotels etc as well as the actual stadiums themselves.

That source has been discussed previously. It disagrees with more recent official UEFA lists and even disagrees with what your own club subsequently stated to the press. Celtic Park has no UEFA stadium rating and nothing has been officially released from either side to prove otherwise.

England won't win it no matter what, we're cursed. We could play the final at Wembley, against San Marino, who have three players sent off in the first ten minutes. We'd miss every shot, half the team would be too busy writing their autobiographies to bother playing, and we'd lose on penalties.

I am sure it would not take much to gain this rating as Celtic Park is better than all of the 2012 venues anyway (the Uefa star system is a joke anyway).

The main problem is the fact that 3 of the stadia are in one city.

The incorrect UEFA article was from 2002. Celtic's annual report from 2003, a full year later, clearly states:

While UEFA do not have their full stadium list available online all you need to do is send them an email to receive the list. The last one I saw was from 2006 and it did not include Celtic Park. Neither do any of the other sites that deal with the issue. There has also been nothing official from either UEFA or Celtic to annouch that Celtic Park has made the grade. Therefore Celtic Park, until either side states differently, remains a zero star stadium. Nothing personal, I just hate Celtic fans constantly trying to claim otherwise when the facts clearly disagree. While you have no doubt made an innocent mistake this is an issue that I have had various arguments about over the last decade because your fans simply cannot accept that Hampden and Ibrox are UEFA 5 star stadiums. Petty rivalry indeed.

it was an innocent mistake on my part so i thank you for the correction. i have no issue whatsoever with the UEFA classification of my teams stadium. i thought it was a 5 star. i'm more than happy with our home regardless of it's UEFA rating.

i wonder if you would have been so zealous to make the correction if it was from the other side of the city.

    i have my doubts.

You have to actually apply to host a final before UEFA will give you a rating, so Celtic Park is unrated.
I actually sent an enquiry on this to UEFA a few days ago to settle an argument between a friend and me - I'll post up their response once I get it.

obviously teso's 'zero star' rating is just another little dig...

Not at all. I believe it is mainly worked out by capacity. Therefore Celtic Park can only be a rated as a 5 star stadium. As it does not yet meet the required conditions then it has no rating at all.
