Will Salt Lake's stadium be Football marks/lines free for opening day?. This is the question that MLS should be answering to fans. Remember the Cardinal's stadium situation?. They tried hard to erase those lines, but they simply we unsusscessful at it.

I thought I heard that there is field turf in there. If so I doubt it'll be getting repainted all the time.

One of the Loyalists told me that the bastardized rugby marking are sewn into the field turf there, unlike at Giants Stadium where the lines are painted on.

Probably not for the first 2/3 of the season, but when the Utes start playing it will be.

There are pics of the field when the US women's team was there and the field looked good.

Are you watching the lines on the field or the players and the ball?

Why can't you say "American football." Suprising as it may seem, but most soccer fans are fans of other sports, too.

Beyond aesthetic values, I find the lines distracting when watching 'Futbol', as it were.

It also makes the league look amateur.

Seahawks (Qwest) Stadium is like that too, no permanent lines. The permanent lines, are well, permanent. Think Southlake and you'll understand Salt Lake. They are working on a SSS though. Sadly they'll have one before NY.

Yeah, obviously the poster who brought it up and many, many others. Hey! I understand some faded NFL lines at the end of the season, but the absolute travesty of permanent lines as at Southlake, including that hideous endzone are flat out detrimental to watching the game. It looks pathetic when you have to strain to even see where the soccer lines are, which happens on the multi-use fields. That is simply amateur. Let's see how NFL fans would react if the soccer lines are three times as pronounced as the NFL lines for their games.

Better yet leave the goals up when the Washington Nationals play baseball in RFK. I mean they have a flag pole in center field Houston so why not?

The lines are sewn into the field. Checketts and co. are looking into ways to cover it up. Do some research- RSL officials have talked about this subject before.

Of course. MLS is probably at a point where they would NOT jump into and/or announce something until they've covered all their bases.

I doubt they will really do much. It doesnt matter anyway, it will only be one season as they are building a new stadium for the 2006 season. I'll be too blinded by the fact im watching our very own soccer team to realize there are extra lines on the field

I should write a Macro for this.

Tigres & Pumas fans don't whine about the Gridiron lines at the Tecnologico & the Olimpico.

can I get a link to this information? They'd have to already have significant progress to have any chance of being open in '07. I haven't seen evidence of any. I'd like to see what I've missed here.

It doesn't take 2 1/2 years to build a stadium. Chicago just now has broken ground on their stadium due to open in 2006.

Let's give them some time, shall we?

If this is the case, the solution is simple, and I want 10%.

Paint the sewn in parts green. But, a common mistake is they get paint to match the field turf--when in fact, they need to get green paint that is darker than the field turf, because you are covering white.

Simply wash green paint off for rugby (and I am not a fan of any other sports, so can I will use the term rugby-if this bothers you, please get a life).

Rice-Eccles Stadium has American Football lines and Ute logos made as part of the turf (white tufts instead of green). The contract/warrenty with FieldTurf has lots of provisions in it (publicity, endorsments and care requirements) which includes FieldTurf approval for use of any paint/removers. Unless there has been some acceptance by them of new products (some available from Utah companies) only products expensive in cost and labor and not envionmently "Green" can be used. The legal goods are at best 80% effective in covering the white.

The Blizz had at least 2 Goalie OPPSIES because of penalty box line identification problens (white lines on greened out and yellow lines on full view gridiron)in the last two years.

Ute football will need lines from some time in August till November and for some time in the Spring (unless they stay indoors in their new practice digs). RES is also occasionally used by the Ute Womens Soccer team when Ute field (grass soccer field) is wet or snow covered).

This information has been posted before.
