They didnt in 12 years. 1441 is not being adhered to. Blix will tell the UN today that Iraq is not fully complying. At what point will the inspections work so that the UN will be satisfied? Also, would this issue be still left on the selve by the UN had the US not pressured them in to taking action with 1441? (BTW, I'm not pro-war but I think the UN has done a terrible job up to date)
all depends on how you set the goals. if total disarmament is your goal, then probably no. but if the goal is to weaken saddam to the point that he losses his ability to be a real, credible threat. i'd say yes. he won't ever willingly comply but he grudgingly complies. so the question one would have to ask themselves, is "do i want to go to war over an adjective?"
Yes, I do. He is required by 1441 to disarm. Compliance with inspectors is necessary to determine whether he disarmed.
I believe it is in the US best interests for Sadaam to be disarmed completely. I believe this should be a foreign policy goal of the US. I believe this should be a policy goal of the UN. The UN is doing nothing about it despite all these wonderful resolutions they pass. We should do something about it.
So you believe that UN resolution 1441 is very important and that the US should make efforts to enforce it. However, if the UN says wait for Blix to finish weapons inspections you believe that the US should ignore the UN and attack Iraq unilaterally. Is that it?
