Stream of consciousness incoming. This thread seems obligatory at this point. How has this thread not been created on here? Watching Daniel not score has been painful. So painful. So many chances. So many. Since April. Fun-sizing APRIL. Anyone have a heat map on our guy? We have had him on our MLSF team a handful of times. No goals. Always a step off. A second too late. Last DGW may have broken me a bit. For fun-size's sake, we are having to defend his acquisition and playing time to family members. I love Dániel Gazdag. Huge fangirl. I know he can score. My eyes have seen the glory. Not for Crew. Not yet. Against Seattle? Someone sacrifice something special to the soccer gods now. Please. For Dániel.
He'll score again Don't know where Don't know when But we know he'll score again Some sunny day Suppose there's a healthy lead late in the game with a PK being granted. Should he take it? It might serve as a confidence booster if he needs it.
Will he score for us first or a own goal ? My guess is he scores at some point on a PK before the season ends. He has 14 more games and from the run of play he hasn’t scored that many MLS goals when you subtract 29/29 on PKs . Great player but right now the pieces don’t fit together well with what we do and what he is used to doing.
Listen up. I want Gazdag to score. So much scoring. All day and all of the night. My eyes were a little teary watching Gazdag greeted after the game by the group with the little Hungarian flags. I am not sure if that is an every game event, but I thought it was swell. Before Sunday's game, Jules said to me, "Daniel Gazdag is going to score five goals." Remember that montage of failure from the Cleveland game created by a Crew fan? That seems to be his season so far in terms of finishing. He is active in Nancy's system. He contributes. Yet, he fails to finish. Goal the ball, Daniel. I had wondered if he was still nursing an injury. Though, the issue may be psychological. "Gazdag is a good player." - I keep muttering to myself. A word created in substitution of "absolutely" on the day before the Fourth of July. Sweet land of liberty.
The fact that this thread title starts with “Rumor: “ made me laugh. I’d like to know what his +/- is—a stat they use for NHL players.
The last DP signing who had a disappointingly bad start for the Crew was Jonathan Mensah. Obviously major differences in position, but after the first couple months, the consensus in the fanbase was that the guy was a bust. Couldn’t cut it here, needed benched ASAP. That turned out ok. Time will tell if things turn around similarly for Gazdag. From what I’ve seen so far, Im not optimistic a change in form is imminent. But I think it likely happens if they get the DP #9 signing right to give Gazdag more space and freedom. One thing I disagree with Nancy on is the strikerless lineup he’s run out a few times, like last game. I know JRR and Aliyu have flaws, but I don’t understand who that benefits up front, or whose strengths that plays to.
Like Mensah i think having a offseason and fresh start to season will be great but hoping the light comes on before the playoffs. He was never going to score here like he did in Philly on PKs but his asst should go up. If he gets 5G a season that’s on par with how much he scored in the run of play at Philly . Looks doubtful he scores 5G this year but we could sure use it. We have big games left to play and need him to get going ASAP
Sanch was also brutal in his first season. The fault lies with Issa Tall for not proactively planning to replace Cucho.
And then reaching for Gazdag instead of getting a better team fit we went with a good available player
The issue being there isn't really anyone on the roster that could fill his spot either. He is a warm body on the field filling a void.
