he is going to quit. he has stated before he wants to retire in holland and barcelona are offering him less than this year and he believes he deserves more than he got this year. i think they might end up offering him the same amount but i still dont think he will stay. i hope to see him head to ajax :)

Was he a big wage earner? Losing him means we have to get a good replacement midfielder. Losing both Davids and Cocu would set us back to the point that we will be a completely new team next year, with Puyol the new Captain.

I don't know Cocu's salary, but some say it is lower than Reiziger and it is below Overmaars or Kluivert, the highest paid. But the deal is that last year he converted his total salary into 70% salary and 30% incentives. And I don't know how much incentive he would have got with 2nd place this year. The pres is offering him another year at 50% salary and the rest incentive, that's half the base he made right out last year. Not very tempting.

And he has been our finest foreign player of the last half decade. He is so respectful, sincere, well-mannered, and a damn intelligent player, one of the best tactical players in the league. I greatly admire Cocu.

    Cocu got to quit
He must be one of the most overrated players in La Liga,if i would be the coach i would get rid of Cocu,Overmars

And it would be good if Davids stay but it looks like he will go to Premier League.

ummm..no, I meant 126000 club members, who are the owners of Futbol Club Barcelona. It is preferable to watch Fc Barcelona games more often, then pass judgement. If you do watch regularly and still think Cocu is overrated, then please entertain the thought changing from futbol to another sport that maybe of interest to you

Changing sport lol football is my favorite sport
I watched almost every game of Barcelona and i know the fact that Cocu slow down the game when he has the ball, the guy is not that creative and is not that good.
And i don't care if 126 000 club members think the opposite i just writing my opinion, and i know the guy ain't that good as people think.

A lot of things he makes for team during the match arent seen on TV. He is a great leader and commanding player and intelligent too. Im not taking your opinion as very serious while it seems that you dont watch barca very often. But as you said, that what you think not majority.

    Great leader and commanding player?

Let me ask you, what has Cocu ever done to Barcelona when he got bought by Van Gaal?
What has these dutch players helped Barca?
Barcelona haven't won anything when these Dutch colonies arrived.
La Liga was owned by Real Madrid during these years and Barca didn't shine(like they used to do before Van Gaal)
Many real Barca fans agrees with me so don't give me this "majority" ****************.

sorry pololololo, but i never heard 'many' barcelona fans believe cocu is over-rated, not very useful/helpful, etc. for his versatility, consistency, leadership, good personality (doesnt cause problems), etc i would have to say maybe not now, but a few years ago he would be a player any team in the world would want. i am not saying he was world class, but he is the complete player.

i was sure that cocu had been offered a contract based more on incentives and he rejected it????
i agree that reiziger will not stay, but i think that is a bad decision cuz he is very versatile. maybe they know he will not stay as a backup?

anyway i wonder who the 5 or 6 players will be? i can guess there will be 2 defenders, maybe 3, and 1-2 forwards.

The world needs role players who can play many positions.

ummm...you're a real barca follower pololo arent ya ? Because you surely know that Van Gaal and the dutch "colonies" (impecable choice of words pololo, class act) won 2 straight Liga Titles (one of them a double). But anyways, if this will help impede your ever so popular Cocu bashing and let this thread serve its purpose, here ya go buddy:
COCU SUCKS TEH AS$$$...JUST LIKE ALL DUTCH PLEAYERZZZ...

I have watched Cocu from day one. In my view he has been one of the most underrated players in Europe over the past 6 years at least. Pure class, versatile, and tactically one of the most intelligent players I've seen. Responsive to his coach, sacrificed at the back, scoring when going forwards. Very polite and respectful with the press. Rarely injured. A model player.

I have felt we were overly dependent on the Dutch connection for a while, but mostly because it denoted laziness when scouting. Cruyff was right in saying that they were good value for the money, as a strong 2nd tier league in Europe. But we overrelied on them back in Van G's days, and I can say as someone who has been here since the late 80s that those leagues were the least celebrated. In part because it was hard to identify with such a large post-Bosman foreign legion from the lowlands.

This year it was different as the squad was more balanced, and the level of sacrifice of all of them was clear, with the exception of Overmaars.

What is especially interesting though is how this is a de facto blow at the influence of Johan Cruyff on Laporta and on Rijkaard especially, as he is always braying in favour of Dutch players (or is it really his friends amongst their agents?).

So who should we believe? Cocu says the offer was downward, the club says upward (same salary, more bonuses)...I personaly think not enough was done to preserve him

"I have given it all by the club and the club it has not given all by me"

Phillip Cocu, that desired to continue one more season, goes of the Barça disappointed with the executive

    Oriol Domènech / BARCELONA

26/05/04 03:00 h.Phillip Cocu himself was not expected it. The great season that has completed the Dutchman, the most utilized player by Rijkaard, it has not served to convince neither to the technical office of the secretary neither to the meeting. The midfield player goes “a little disappointed” with the attitude of the executive. “I have always given it all by the club and now the club it has not given all by me”, commented yesterday to MD Phillip, an example for a wardrobe that will miss its character, its commitment and its tactical intelligence.

Last year Cocu already renewed for a year charging almost the half and now the club presented lowers him it the fixed one and to enlarge him the incentives by parties and titles. Phillip rejected the proposal and presented a counteroffer, that the club ruleed out. “I expected to continue. I have played a good level, never I have created none controversial and last summer already I did a very large sacrifice. It could not accept another contract downward”, explained the Dutchman, that added that “the effort cannot arrive only of a side, but of the two”.

    Indisputable with all

Cocu, that today will be incorporated to the concentration of the Dutch selection to prepare the Eurocopa, has been indisputable holder with all the technicians (Go Gaal, Saws Ferrer, Rexach, Antic and Rijkaard). It will pass to the history by its polivalencia (played of all less than goalkeeper) and by being the foreigner of the history of the Barça with more parties of League (204)

    [Up]

Frank Rijkaard: “did Not think that Cocu would go”

26/05/04 03:00 h. The technician was shown enough surprised with the good-bye of the Dutch one Phillip Cocu al to recognize that “he did not think that he would go. I believe that the club has done him a notable offering but that the player it has not accepted. He is free to do what he want. In the life he one must take elections and Cocu has determined not to continue”. Rijkaard insist that “is a grief, since is a player that has always given him for all by the team”. The míster did not want to be pronounced on the possible drop of another Dutchman, Kluivert. Only it indicated that “I expect that understand that the club will seek the best solution for both”
