    a simple question.

real done, and colorado bad, will the mexican reinforcements (including juan pablo garcia, my favorite now ex-Atlas player) lift the Goats into the playoffs?

Check out Colorado. They may be anemic on offense, but if their defense can mind the ship and Cunningham steps up (EVEN MORE), this team is going to be very qualified for the playoffs. The Rapids are pretty much in the playoffs at this point in my mind. They haven't been playing bad soccer. However, they need to start winning at home again if they want to contend for MLSCup. What has Chivas done this year? Beaten an expansion team twice, tied a poor SJ team (at the time), tied an extremely tired Wizard team at home, lost to Colorado twice. They don't have a prayer.

Colorado does have a pretty good defense with Cannon in goal and Borchers, Petke, Kotschau, and Mastroeni in front of him. They're midfield is shaky, however. If Peguero could get healthy and play like he did last year, Colorado would be pretty decent, and I'd give Chivas no shot.

If they also sign Palencia (as is rumored), Luis Hernandez Syndrome will outweigh any benefit they get from having Garcia on the team.

Today's LA Times says Palencia is again having "second thoughts" about coming to CDCUSA. Not a good sign. We have had our fill of half-hearted "superstars."

CD Chivas USA will not make the playoffs this season. And it won't even be close! There is not enough time, and not enough help on the way.

However, I do think that they will take what they have learned this year and use the next two transfer windows to improve the club. The future looks bright for the Goats.

Still almost half a season and they only need to win like 4-5 more games to guarantee a spot with competition like Colorado and Reeyaal

Re: Will Chivas USA make the playoffs?

Could there be anything more that would prove what a joke the MLS season and "playoff" structure is if Chivas USA managed to sneak in and win the cup? Why on Earth would Palencia want to play here when all he knows and grew up with is in Mexico. Everything Palencia grew up with and fought for is in the MFL and the national team. How could he POSSIBLY take MLS seriously at this point of his career? The only thing that would turn him on is being a competitor and the possibility of defending Mexican soccer through Chivas USA by stomping his foot and saying here I am and knocking down the MLS door. I don't think he is psyched about playing for Chivas USA at all, how could he be? He is still a useful player and he probably sees going to Chivas USA as more of an insult for not being more wanted in Chivas Guadalajara.

I am not trying to put MLS down, on the contrary, I love MLS but facts are facts with Palencial. He does not look like a guy who likes to play just for money, he needs a real reason and purpose. He may feel like there is no reason or purpose the more he investigates into MLS. I think he would break down and cry the first time he is forced to play in a 1/50th full stadium. He is used to the bigtime and is not ready to give it up... again... he just played in a massive Libertadores tournament. Anything after Libertadores is a step down I am afraid unless some huge European club comes swooping in for his services.

I don't know if having Palencia in Chivas USA will help or hinder the club. For God's sake there is nothing worse than having a player confused or indifferent about playing or not.

Re: Will Chivas USA make the playoffs?

In order to do that, they would have to contend w/ prolly the strongest top teams the league has seen in a few years. If LA gets its act together, and SJ keeps gelling, whichever team comes out of the West for Cup will be st-rong.

And if Chivas wins, more power to them. They truly would deserve it (unless of course everybody else in the league just crashes and falls and then Chivas walks away w/ an easy title (kinda like Club America did this past spring in Mexico), then it would be a shame.
According to that worldstadiums website (.com?), Chivas averages around 33K (?) in a stadium that seats 65+. Call it 50% capacity on average. Oh, and there are days when Chivas USA outdraws Papa Chivas, even for the Guadalajara Derby w/ Atlas!! (Last year it was M.T.!!)

In LA they are averaging 33% capacity, roughly. And given that (I assume that) 15K in LA brings more $$ at the gate and concessions to Vergara than 30K in Guadalajara, me thinks things won't be nearly as bad as ppl are predicting (i.e. that Chivas USA will remain a failure on the field for 2-3 years and then fold).

After this result (Chivas-1 Revs-0) I don't think anyone will be looking past Chivas, so teams will be motivated and prepared. Nevertheless, a clearly improved Chivas side should be able to squeeze a few more wins this season. Will it be enough to make the playoffs? It'll be real close, and as a cockeyed optimist, I voted yes. I've always thought that the inclusion of Chivas was a great move, soccerwise. Competition makes everyone better, and a different and distinctive playing style will eventually have a positive influence on the league as well as aspiring youth players. Whether it will work out financially, I don't know.

Re: Will Chivas USA make the playoffs?

First, congratulations to the loyal Chivas USA supporters on a great win over New England last night. That was some pretty good futbol!

Now the bad news. In order for Chivas USA to make the playoffs they will probably need to get to 36 points on the season. They have only 12 matches remaining. That means they would need to get 24 points out of those 12 matches. Which means that they would have to take about 63% of the available points from those matches.

So Chivas will need 7 wins, 2 losses, and 3 ties down the stretch to make the playoffs. It's not impossible. And if they do it they will deserve everything they get. But I wouldn't start chilling the champaign anytime soon.

They will sneak into the playoffs late in th season, RSl is all but dead(one pt ahead) and Colorado is points ahead. They had avery good week earlier wehere they beat LA, Chivas adn someone else to get 9pts in 8 days.Since then they have lost and will continue to lose.

If they do it will be because the squeak in because Colorado falters in the end or RSL can't get their act together.

I don't see why not as all of the bottom 3 Western teams are pretty bad.
