Wildman During our Michael Owen debate you set a target for Michael Owen this season. I can't remember exactly what the target was now, but I believe it was surpassed today. Care to grovel on here and ask for forgiveness and beg for mercy or at least acknowledge Owen's brilliance Yours in Red, Lots of Kopites
Kopiteinkc, I was saying that I'd like to see Owen score at least 20 Premiership goals (he has 19 league goals now). I've always acknowledged Owen is a terrific and brilliantly skilled player. But, I wanted to see it in the number goals he is scoring. (he was always around 15-16 goals a year, which seemed like a number that many strikers were achieving) You have to admit, when I was first harping, he was in a slump. I'd like nothing better for him to be the top scorer in the Premiership some day. Right now he is on a tear. I don't care if he scored 4 against already relegated West Brom, every other striker in the league has had the same chances to score 4 goals against the weaker teams.
Owen is now scoring at a pace that is befitting, if you are considered a top striker in the league. He was in a slump earlier in the year and he has roared back with a vengence.
You're missing the point, you judge someone over a whole season, not a few weeks when they don't score.
Exactly. RVN and Owen are the only two players to have had two hat tricks in the EPL this season. RVN has 20 goals and Owen has 19. And 7 of RVN's have been PKs, while Owen has had 2. Yet one has been considered past his prime (albeit by idiots), while the other is not.
I only post facts. I once posted that penalties really should not count toward a players totals. Most of the time the preceeding foul would not have resulted in a goal, OR the player taking the kick is not the player that drew the foul in the first place. If it were up to me, I would not count the penalties on a players totals. I could also convert 75% of Pk's and so could many here. Owen does not have many PK goals because he misses most of his PKs!! hows that for knowledge! I did not notice that Ruud had that many PK's. What do the scoring charts look like if you subtract out all the PK's scored? I want to see who the scorers are in open play, not gifted PK's that pad a players scoring numbers.
Strictly speaking I suppose that is true because a fact is something that can be proved or disproved. Unfortunately for us and ultimately yourself, your facts almost exclusively fall into the disproven category.
That's pretty commendable converting 75% of your Pks. What was your best seasons total goal tally with the Cosmos…?
Yeh Owen is over the hill would much prefer Kevin Phillips or Dwight Yorke. Those pillars of goal scorers year in and year out.
