That was Quilotoa, although he was incorrect about that, his overall point was accurate. By the time Aguinaga played in the WC, De La Cruz, Ivan Hurtado, and El Tin were really the backbone of the team. The world never really got to see the real Aguinaga in his glory days.
Yea, sorry about Aguinagua I didn't know about that. (I'm new to Ecuador football) Nevertheless, I do think the future for Ecuador football is brighter than ever. (from my ignorant perspective)
Nothing's gonna happen till the summer anyway, so news will be slow. Anyway, teams from France and Germany have shown interest as well: http://www.elcomercio.com/noticiaEC.asp?id_noticia=260584&id_seccion=9
Latest article on Benitez to Wigan: http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Football/2009/03/03/Prem-Benitez-C-agent-on-Wigan-/gnid-42785/
Wigan vs West Ham: The Return of Luis Antonio Valencia Happy news people, Luis Antonio Valencia has recovered from his hamstring injury and will feature in Wigan's match against West Ham on Wednesday. Joining the pacey winger back to footballing action will be Mido, Koumas, and Watson, therefore meaning that Wigan are back to full strength. Below is a link to a game preview by Setanta Sports, and Setanta are predicting a 2-1 Wigan win. I too believe Wigan will win this one, this by the scoreline of either 2-1 or 2-0. http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Football/2009/03/03/Prem-Wigan-v-West-Ham-preview/gnid-42792/
(LAOH) http://www.futbolecuador.com/#inicio Ecuador striker Benitez waiting to hear from Wigan 04.03.09 | Ian Ferris The agent of Christian Benitez states that Wigan have yet to get in touch with an offer for his client. The 22-year-old almost joined Dutch outfit Feyenoord last term, but an injury prevented a deal. French and German clubs have also been linked with Benitez, whose agent Luis Aguerre told El Comercio: "First of all Santos have to receive an offer from Wigan and sign a contract. "And then, I can intervene to sort a move." http://tribalfootball.com/ecuador-striker-benitez-waiting-hear-wigan-230593 hopefully benitez goes to wigan!
Horrible game by Wigan. Even when they had a one man advantage they screwed up and got a red card(cattermole). Valencia had a poor first half but picked it up a lot in the second. Very good comeback game for Valencia.
That Cattermole is a psycho. He has already killed off two players from my home club of Newcastle Utd, which were Beye and Joey Barton, this amongst other casualties in the EPL, and today he almost snapped Scotty Parker in half, which resulted in Clattermole's dismissal. If Wigan had eleven men on the field they may have won today's game. Stevie Bruce needs to calm this kid down.
I disagree. Apart from a few minutes of good play at the end of the first half, Valencia was definitely not at his best. I think he needs another game to come back to full form. The team as a whole played terribly, much worse than their last four games.
EPL: Sunderland v Wigan (14/03/2009) Sunderland v Wigan Preview by Setanta Sports: http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Football/2009/03/13/Prem-Sunderland-v-Wigan-preview/gnid-43955/ Sunderland v Wigan Preview by Sky Sports: http://www.skysports.com/football/match_preview/0,19764,11065_3005085,00.html Hugo Rodallega set to become star starting striker? http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/...em-Bruce-set-to-unleash-Rodallega/gnid-43259/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Well this weekend Wigan come face to face with the major rival city to my home town of Newcastle upon Tyne, and therefore the biggest rival to fellow Geordie and current Wigan manager Steve Bruce as well, so hopefully Wigan completely kick butt. Wigan Athletic enter this game without a win in eight matches, and during this time they have only netted two goals. The absense of star player Luis Antonio Valencia was a key reason for this, however he returned to the squad last week, and although not performing great due to possible fitness related issues, finding his feet again etc, he should be back to his best again this week to help form the real Wigan . Word has it that Hugo Rodallega is close to becoming a regular starter in the squad, this since he has pretty much settled in fully, reached full fitness, and his quality is improving, and Stevie Bruce is liking what he sees. Should the Rod start I could see him getting his goal scoring in the EPL under way. With regards to predictions, Setanta Sports predict a 2-1 Sunderland win, whereas Sky Sports are going for a 1-0 Wigan win. When it comes to my opinion I will go for either a 1-1 draw, or 1-0 Wigan win.
Valencia didn't perform at his best today but its obviously b/c his not in shape from that last injury...By the time World Cup Qualifiers matches come up(2 WEEKS) he'll been at a 100 plus.
Zaki of course is going to be gutted by the news of the latest Valencia injury. Since Valencia got injured and Honduran International Wilson Palacios departed the club, the Egyptian striker has had no decent service coming to him from the midfield. Valencia returned from the hamstring injury for a couple of games, but just wasnt the same player, and it appears as though the hamstring problems may have still been present. Now Valencia is injured, via the hamstring again. As a result of the lack of decent service from the midfield, Zaki's goal scoring has dried up, in which he hasnt scored for many weeks, and last week he even found himself sitting on the bench. Due to such events, the interest from clubs willing to sign him has saw quite a change, in which during the first half of the season he had clubs such as Real Madrid and Liverpool chasing his signature, whereas now it is clubs such as Marseille and PSG that are interested in signing him. His parent club El Zamalek (Egypt) has also dropped the valuation of the player from 12 million to 6 - 8 million, and with regards to Wigan, who he is currently on loan to, it looks as though they may be losing interest in tieing him to a long term deal, this of course being unless he returns to goal scoring form quickly. With all of this in mind, what do you Wigan/Valencia fans think will become of Zaki come next season? Do you believe that he will remain with Wigan, move elsewhere, or return to play with Zamalek? And how do you see the starting strike force for Wigan looking? Will it be Zaki/Benitez, Rodallega/Benitez, Benitez/Mido etc? Will Wigan consider making Mido's contract more permanent as opposed to the loan? Let me know.
EPL: Wigan Athletic v Hull City (22/03/2009) Wigan Starting XI: Kirkland, Melchiot, Bramble, Boyce, Figueroa, Watson, Brown, Scharner, N'Zogbia, Rodallega, Mido. Subs: Kingson, Pollitt, Edman, Cho, Zaki, De Ridder, Kapo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- For the second week in a row Zaki finds himself dropped to the bench. Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega makes his first Wigan start in this match.
For the first time today I saw HRod not suck completely. He played a decent first half (but he was back to his usual self for the second). The disappointment today way Mido. Hugo made a couple of good plays and passes and Mido just wasted them. Zaki would've surely scored had he been there instead of Mido. Oh and Hugo could've headed the ball into an open net but he hit the post. Christian Benitez would not have missed that.
Yea, the Rod did something finally but I think I would rather have Valencia on the wing. Rod has no power; he is too weak to play in the Premiership. I think Argentine Futbol is completely correct. Either way, I hope Wigan can keep winning.
I was playing today in Riverside park here in Manhattan and group of African french speaking mofos looked at one of the guys on my team who had the NT Valencia jersey... they were like " who the ******** is Valencia" and started laughing.. then I got in and was like .. you will be shutting your mouth when he goes to ManU or Liverpool .. or maybe even Real Madrid... and they even jeered more sarcastically at me... they started laughing and were like " whos is that dude?? dont tell me he is better than nani.. than ronaldo!!" I was like he an up and coming star and great player... maybe if you weren't sucking off so much the big teams and started really becoming a true football fan of the EPL you would know about him and seeing what kind of player he is.... i felt like sharing this with you guys... ya know .. had to come in and deffend against some ignorant french accented bums who don't really know much.
