I got a question about tiebreakers, heres a COMPLETELY MADE UP SCENARIO:

    Final Team Point Totals:

    Revolution - 35 points
    Metro - 35
    KC - 35

Lets say the Metro owned the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Revolution. That would put them ahead of the Revs. But then KC owns the tiebreaker over the Metro. That would put KC in first place, Metro in 2nd and the Revs in 3rd. But then lets say that the Revs owned the tiebreaker over KC. So it would be a complete circle:

    KC --> Metro --> Revs --> KC....

So who would be in first place??

The revolution were swept by KC this year!

So. A bigger question has to be this.

    DC beats Dallas next week
The revs Muts game ends in with a winner
    KC loses to the Rapids
    Chicago ties Columbus

Thus for teams are tied for 7th place in the standings... Who would get the 7th and 8th seeds respectively?

I'm guessing, but I'd say that makes for a three way tie, so they'd have to look at Goal Differential.

The first tiebreaker is total record in all head-to-head games amongst the 3 teams. Currently it is:

    6. MetroStars 4-0-1
    7. Kansas City 2-1-1
    8. New England 0-5-0

Lufty, you almost kill my thread cause you can't read before you post. I said it was a made up scenario.

As for the real responses, looking back at MLS rules it is against all teams that are tied, so Noah is right. One could argue that KC would have the advantage in a way cause they play less games, so they have a better chance of having a better record. Its probably dumb logic though.

Dear Up the Metro's ____, I hope this revives the thread you intended to start...

Try to construct a scenario in which three teams could be tied head to head, similar to what Noah posted, but with a three way tie. If it can be done then your question is a good one. If not, it ain't.

Without a single table, and with filling the schedule with games so that some teams meet twice, some four times and some five, the multiple team head to head seems unfair. But thats' the nature of tie breakers, really, isn't it?

If you switch KC for another team in the East then it probably could happen. But like you said, then it would probably just go to goal differential.

Isn't this just an awful way to break the tie?? There is a certain logic and simplicity to using GD, especially when three teams are tied.
