I've been playing those positions more often now I have lot of assists but no goals. Our last game was 8v8 we won 4-3 I assisted all four goals and I noticed the other team had a very good player that scored all three goals. I think played on the right wing but he would cut in alot. I play on the opposite, I am right footed and play on the left wing and I can't seem to cut in to score a goal. I also need some help defending as a a full back. For example a few games ago the winger got ball I came to defend and he passed it to his full back. I usually in these situation I try to give the winger space and try to cut off the pass before it gets to the opposing full back but all the other players keep yelling to press him. I am really good at reading plays so most of the time I intercept the pass. What am I supposed to do? Also I need help on my 1v1 as a winger especially to try to cut inside.for example what moves to use. EDIT also any moves to maintain possesion Any other tips are welcome thanks in advance
I'm a full-back/winger with pace. Defending is all about aggression. In the past I would just let them bully me but no more. I make them hate playing me and that's the key to it. Shove them, pull them, kick them, just do whatever to wind them up and they will not play well.. Sounds terrible but true. Any 50/50s and just go like you want to hurt them. That is the key to aggression ^ I'll post some more advanced tips for taking players on tomorrow. That's a start. Become more aggressive and you become a better defender. Obviously you don't go over the top, but little niggly things will wind them up. Then you have to be physical.
Yeah I noticed that about fullbacks. Could you also add tips get around aggressive defenders. Mostly they just wait for me to make a long touch(so I can accelerate away) and then they just shove me off the ball. I am not weak I am slightly built and heavy but they just seem to beat me at shoving.
Hmm.. Are you fast or technical or what? Personally, I've always been exceptional technically but lacked pace, but in the past year my legs have developed a lot and I can burn past most opponents. But, I NEVER take a long touch and sprint past unless there's a good 30 yard gap behind the defender and I know I can beat them. When I've been playing recreational stuff with my mates recently, one of them is really strong, bulky and aggressive. But what I do is basically, because I know I'm faster, is take lots of small touches, keep knocking the ball from side to side. Often, as an attacking full-back, I see where players will go in there eyes, body-language etc. You have to have variety, just knocking a ball past them won't work because as you say, they'll block you off. So run at them, go to their left, go to their right. Do step-overs, drop your shoulder. Just VARIETY is key. I can get past him everytime because I put him off balance and because he isn't as agile as me, I just skip past and I'm away. If you do this properly, you'll know when to make the run. It takes a lot of confidence, I know it'll seem hard at first. Another thing - when you first run at this guy, make sure you leave a bad first-impression to him. Defenders will often try to foul the opposition straight away, occasionally very hard just to make the winger know they are there. It works the opposite way, psychologically it is massive beating your man with your first run. Knowing you can get past him is absolutely key to performance. Look at CR7, he KNOWS he is the best. He KNOWS he can run past anybody. This is why he's one of the greatest. Sorry if this isn't clear.
I am pretty technical I have probably average speed. I do step overs but as soon as I try to accelerate away he blocks me off.I guess I have to make him commit first.
If you have average speed, the winger position might not be your best position. Perhaps, if your team played you as a "midfielder" in a system, where you are tucked in, and let your fullback overlap, you can have more impact. I play fullback from time to time, and I am not very big, but fast and strong. So, my dare to any winger is try to outrun me, and I will bull rush them into the ground, and make a solid tackle. It is much easier to defend the winger, when he has acres of space, and will feel compelled to try to take you on. It gets a little bit more challenging, when he has team mates and can do a wall. However, even with a wall, I am ready for that, and if he tries to accelerate away and keep the ball, I will just chase him and shove him off the ball.
if your teammates are telling you to pressure, then you should pressure. (it doesn't mean taking the ball. it just means you're playing too far off of him. you need to close down the space and angles so that his passing options are even more limited.) normally, when your teammates tell you to pressure, it means they are covering the passing options. (of course, if your teammates tell you to pressure, but they're not closing the passing options, then they don't know what they're talking about.)
I am might not be that fast but I am pretty skill full so it makes me look fast. I kind of want to try to play as a center mid or attacking mid but I have a tendency to move toward the wings. Yeah what happens most of the time it's 1v2 and nobodies marking the other opponent
he's fast--just has that extra step on the other players. from the clip, his movement and defense seem to be decent. but it's hard to say because they don't show how often he misses a tackle or leaves a mark. his first touch and passing seem a little rough. he controls and shields the ball, but there's a lack of precision. when receiving the ball, it seems like it just takes an extra split second to really have the ball where he needs it. and his passes seem like they're just a split second too slow for his teammates--either that, or the pass bounces awkwardly at his teammates. (you see his teammates having to adjust to get to the ball instead of being able to run just onto it.) he seems to favor driving crosses low into the box--that's not a bad thing if there's someone making that run, but it seems to me that, if he takes a look and doesn't see anyone making that run, then he shouldn't be making that cross.
or maybe we play for the same team... ah, soccer in america. it's a little sad. i wonder how many soccer fans are also pointyball fans? because there's a lot of stuff going on that translates from one sport to the other.
It's from the Premier Development League. He played for vermont. I went up to see some of his games and told him he should make a tape. The field they play on is very very bad. Not levelled at all, his passing is alot better on better fields (away games) though. He's okay defensively as he played rightback and left back too. Still has alot of work to do though.
He's a pretty good winger. I play a bit similar, however a bit more pace, and creative on top of the box, nevertheless he's class. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlAlTsTF_-k"]Marcus Alfonzo compilation - YouTube[/ame]
