If they win the Open Cup final on Thursday night, the Burn qualify for the CONCACAF Champions Cup. http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=23438 The US gets four berths. One goes to the MLS Cup champion, one goes to the MLS Cup runner-up, one goes to the US Open Cup champion, and one goes for the Supporters' Shield winner. LA and New England qualify, by virtue of being in the MLS Cup final. Since LA won the Supporters' Shield and are already qualified, the next slot would go to San Jose for having the second-best point total in MLS. If Columbus wins on Thursday night, they get the fourth spot as US Open Cup champions. However, if LA wins, the fourth spot would go to the team with the third-best point total in MLS, which is us. Wacky.
However we get into one of these cups is OK with me as long as the team has earned their spot via good play on the field. The worst CONCACAF competition might have been the short-lived Giants Cup, where the Crew and United represented MLS due to their sterling fan support.
With our luck, the Crew will spank the unmotivated Galaxy 3-0. The one time I root for the Gals, and they'll let me down.
I was thinking the exact same thing...oh come on you $hit heads, win, you always do it when we don't want you to...
you jinxed it "Originally posted by Alex Sanz With our luck, the Crew will spank the unmotivated Galaxy 3-0. The one time I root for the Gals, and they'll let me down. " Un huh. Thanks a lot, LA. More time to concentrate on the regular season games, I guess. rats/
