What's with ALL THE EMPTY SEATS at AC Milan HOME games??? I just saw the AC Milan/Reggina game and there were many empty red seats in the lower levels. AC Milan fans are going absolutely crazy over Beckham and we all know Italy loves soccer like a religion to begin with so WHY all the empty seats??
Prob cause it was Reggina. Watch the Derby this weekend Milan is actually leading attendance figures in Serie A this season.
But that shouldn't matter since Beckham is there and they're crazy over him so it was very surpising to see so many empty seats. A lot more than what you'd even see at an LA Galaxy game. That's REALLY shocking considering Italy worships soccer.
Who's crazy over Beckham?? He's not more popular in Italy than Ronaldinho or Kakà, and nowhere near the level of Totti, Gattuso or Pierpiero. Milan want to sign him simply because he's good. Reasons why lower seats in Italian stadiums are usually empty: - lower tiers are more expensive than upper tiers - tifo is found in the popular sectors, not there - glass barriers (mandatory for security reasons) affect the view. Seats standing right behind them are not on sale for obvious reasons - Not San Siro's case, but in stadiums with tracks the view from lower tiers is abysmal - no seat assignment, so people either illegally sneak in other sectors (gradinata/curva, usually) or cram where you get the best view instead of spreading out. Even when the stadium is sold out you often see empty lower tiers (happens all the time in Rome and Naples).
Well, to be honest Milan really should have more fans at the stadium but there were probably 50000 there to watch Milan play the worst team in the league still. If you're gauging attendance by empty seats then of course Milan will have more than Galaxy. The Home Depot Arena doesn't even sit as many empty seats as are in San Siro.
