Its painfully obvious , we are just another property of AEG.We are not the Chicago Fire.We are the AEG Fire. Why should chicago soccer fans continue to support this operation?
Let me know what other options there are. Maybe you could be a Packer Fan! Their city owns the team don't they? All teams have owners, usually not the public. Ir we could set up the CSL (Communist Soccer League). A league for the people finally! I've got a catch phrase: "It's Your Game" Why am I responding to this?
Uh.. Packers are not owned by the City of Green Bay.The people of green bay (and other places) are investors in the club. They have purchased Stocks in the team. Its similar to how many european clubs operate. When you purchase a season ticket you become an investor in the team. And thus have voting rights when it comes to decisions for the club (usually to vote for a club President). There is nothing communist about it.Its True Democratic Capitalism. If you dont pony up cash to become a club member you have no right to bitch.. Clubs who attract the more fans who can afford to pay will able to afford better coaches , players etc..(to clarify that was about euro clubs not the Packers) Pretty damn simple aint it.. nothing socialist or communist about it. On the other hand, what we have now is anything but Free Enterprise. You have one investment group controlling nearly every team.making sure no one team gets to strong.Parity rules the roost.of course unless the team hails from NY or LA.. rules need not apply there.Only in the uncivilized hinterlands like Columbus, Dallas , KC and Chicago. There is obvious conflicts of intrest. Where one "department" can steal anothers employee without having to give any substantial reimbursement. We have seen this before with players moved around at the leagues whim.Contracts mean nothing, except of course if Bob was being courted from outside of MLS.Then of course AEG Fire would be playing hardball.. likely blocking Bradley from coaching the remainder of his AEG contract.
Re: Re: Why should I continue to support AEG Fire? Since you obviously are not part of the true Chicago soccer scene let me help you here... There are scores of clubs throughout Chicago People can support.I alreadyt have one I have been a club member of for a good two decades.I guess they will see an increase in my financial support since no one can give me a legitamate reason to continue to support AEG Fire... IE c'mon Fire front Office.. give us a legitamate answer to why die hard Chicago soccer fans should continue to support your organization.
Re: Re: Re: Why should I continue to support AEG Fire? Since you obviously don't know what you're on about, let me help you... Chicago has one professional soccer team: the Fire. Period. I suppose you could go to see the Fire Reserves and the Eagles Select (if they still exist any more) and I'd actually recommend it in addition to Fire games because I've gone to Fire Reserves games and they're fun. You won't get near the level of play you'd see in MLS, but the reffing is often better. Oh, you could also catch Jamar playing for the Assyrians in the amateur leagues if you like. And I guess you'll be watching lots of crap soccer. Have fun. Because your only other choice for watching pro-level soccer is the Rampage. And you can't watch their away games on TV like you can with the Fire. If you have a problem with the MLS league office and its shenanigans, I can certainly understand that. But the Fire staff are the good guys who've been giving the league office the finger ever since disobeying their command to feature Jorge Campos - which is part of the reason the league office doesn't like us. Finally, try taking your "Boo hoo, the Fire office are incompetent meanies" whining to Metrostars or Revs fans. Please tell me how many nanoseconds it takes for them to laugh you right out of the rooom.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Why should I continue to support AEG Fire? uh.. which part was a boo-hooing against the Fire FO?I was simply asking them for a legitame reason as why Chicagoans should continue to support their business. I dont have a problem with the FO at all. They are just doing their job.But as the Go-betweens for the fans and AEG , I think they should answer for their bosses. as far as watching crappy amateur soccer.... I guess you could use that arguement for MLS.I can watch quality world class football on my sattelite or at the pub every week.when i want to watch it live.. I guess i'll stick with the local amateur clubs.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Why should I continue to support AEG Fire? I stopped reading after that masterpiece.
Re: Re: Re: Why should I continue to support AEG Fire? Please name at least 5 out of the "scores" of clubs here in Chicago. I'd be interested in checking them out.
If you don't like the situation, then don't support the Fire. I am sick and tired of the last couple of days of how the Liams of this board have decided to declare the end of the world because Bob Bradley wanted to return home.
After reading 10 posts in this thread, I still can't figure out why Mr. Yobar doesn't want to support the team. If it's solely because of AEG, I don't recall hearing many complaints when we went to MLS Cup in 2 of our first three seasons.
i'm a fire fan i don't pick a team because of their owner... i don't collect owner memorabilia (can anyone trade me a 78' anschutz? i need the fortune 500 card)
I'll give you 14 good reasons why you should continue to support the Fire. They are each of the 14 years of agony that hardcore Chicago soccer fans had to endure without any pro outdoor team to support.
I love posts that involve: 1. A ridiculous/ludicrous topic. 2. Someone passionately defending it! 3. It's not Oak Park Bob. New Topic: Peter Wilt, Can you trade our current team for the national team? You must have seen how well they did in Korea and I think the FIRE could benefit from having those players on the pitch. I'll start getting some private investors (non-AEG) involved. Pyro
Because one of the guys who produced this earlier this year might be the owner sometime in the future:
