Why is it, that if Viduka skipped international matches for Australia, is he suspended from Club play on the other side of the planet? The suspension was handed down by the Aussie FA, right? Why should they have any say over playing in club matches if they are not in your country?

This thread does a pretty good job documenting the news as it came in regards to Viduka. Basically when he said no, the Aussie Soccer Association whined to FIFA and FIFA actually handed out the ban on Viduka. There is a rule that if you skip an International Friendly without permission from your country, then you are suspended.

Viduka was suspended because the ASA are a bunch of w*nkers. They believe Harry Kewell is injured because it's Liverpool, who Farina fancies and they don't believe Viduka because it's Leeds and they don't want to do us any favours because we've had a good number of Aussie internationals over the last 4 years, not to mention their best players. I'm happy the Socceroos always fail to qualify for the World Cup because they don't deserve to go, stick to Rugby, oh ha ha, Aussies are crap at that aswell.
