i am not trying to start trouble and hope i dont get trolled, but i dont see anything special about it. everyday in iraq innocent people are dying, US soldiers are dying for what some think is no reason, and there are tons of horrific things happening in our own country. it is very sad that this guy died, but i really dont care. just because they cut off his head it makes it more special? here in the states parents kill there own kids purposely, to me that is much worse. so is this only a big issue because there is actually a video and although i dont think the news can play it, they can get very good ratings talking about it? people die everyday for no reason and it is sad, it is a part of life, a bad part, but still a part of life.
because i think i read 5 or so pages in and didn't really see it being touched upon, sorry that i didnt read the other 17 pages. why not just tell me to look in there instead of being an ahole?
Exactly! I don't see why the abuse pictures or video is a big deal. So what, the stuff happens all over the world every day and we never hear about it. Hell it happens here in the US too and we never hear about it. So why is it a big deal?
The abuse photos are a big deal because of the impact they'll have on our efforts to "win hearts and minds" in Iraq, not to mention making us look like complete hypocrites to the rest of the world. I know that conservatives hate the concept of personal responsibility (unless it is being applied to poor people and minorities) but someone in the chain of command f-ed up royally by ordering it and now there are questions of whether or not the Bush administration knew about it and ignored it (or, Jah forbid, even encouraged it). People want to know who knew what and when, especially since if the Bush admnistration is involved somehow, we have a chance to vote them out of office fairly soon. The decapitation video is a big deal because, outside of it being a heart-wrenching and tragic human interest story, it reminds us of just how f-ed up the occupation still is and how we are not in control of Iraq.
Sorry Joe..... I was being sarcastic. Had you read any of my posts in the other threads you'd know my opinion on the matter.
An American civilian has his head *sawed* off in retaliation for the 'torture' incidents. The two are feeding off of each other and causing a bigger stir than they might have individually. That being said, an innocent man who was there not to fight was captured and brutally murdered and then the tape of his murder was sent to television stations and internet sites worldwide. I think it's safe to say that this isn't much to do about nothing (I would like to note that I fully spelledout out 'much to do' instead of using the more common place 'Adu.')
asta THIS is precisely the problem - nobody gives a fvck unless it happens to them - so what? because people die everywhere, everyday it means that this murder is less of a murder? especially considering the context? thats just some stupid ass sh1t
Did you notice how much it upset the general public to see the iraqi prisoners being tortured? Perhaps you could extrapolate from that. You need to quit projecting your own mental issues on the rest of us.
Personally I'd be just as pained or outraged if something like this happened to a person from another country. Having said that, the death of an American stings a bit more.
exactly my point, is this only a big deal cuz it is on video? i feel bad for the guy, i feel bad for every1 i hear about killed in the news whether in iraq or in a car accident, but when it comes down to it i dont really care cuz i do not know them and so many people die in a sad way every day. maybe i am more desensitized or something, but 5 mins after watching the movie i was no longer bothered and got on with my life. i was just watching msnbc and some guy made a good point, at least it was to me. people get so worked up about janet jacksons nipple and stuff, but when it comes to this they try censoring reality which is wrong. the point he was making is diff from the one im going for (although i do think the movie should be more easily accesible), but imo many americans do not face reality. whether it is death, drugs, homelessness, et al. anyway i want all of your opinions and thanks for responding. i am sure 100% of the ppl on this forum are more learned and much more politcal.
ohh and here is something for bluedaddy. after just using the word learned, i remembered a good simpsons quote. from the episode homer becomes a big brother out of spite (bart got a big brother saying his father was a low-life): (i forget the little boys name) - papa homer, you are so learn-ed. homer - learned pipe (?), learned
So you are still reading my posts? Okay. No, I didn't project my own mental issues on you, I projected it on those Americans who did feel pains only when their own people died.
But that's a republican way of thinking - I don't care, I don't know these people. Try put yourself into their shoes.
You mean people like you? People without empathy enough or imagination enough to feel bad when horrible things happen to other humans. People who think that they need to see real-life rapes and murders in order to be disgusted by them?
