Since the Milan debacle Rivaldo's stock has fallen thru the floor and for some reason none of the top tier of clubs want to sign him, why the hell not? - he was never a fast player and at 32 he has at least 4years of football left in him, probably more, because he has always relied on his skill, technique and guile to play and he's not going to lose those anytime soon. - he has high wages, but his productivity for his team(s) matches those wages. - he was a KEY member in winning Brazil the world cup!! How has that been overlooked by anyone of his suitors, I do not know. - A few of the top class teams lack a #10 that can do what Rivaldo does. - This guy is the deadlist number #10 in the air (if we discount Ballack). That is a massive bonus and it forces opposing teams to keep a man on or round abouts him even on crosses.. Rivaldo has never had the respect he deserves and I think this final chapter in his career highlights that. I feel sorry for the guy. 9goals in two World Cups and a number of stunning performances at Barca especially and he still can't get no love. Such a tragedy.. Does he have some kind of attitude problem that has gone unreported in the press? or is it just his high wage demands that have caused his current situation? With all due respect to Bolton, Rivaldo is a guy who deserves a whole lot more.
I think it is simply that he has done nothing for two years and he does come with wage demands (although they are not as high as they once were). In my opinion if Barca let Ronaldinho go then they should take him back for next season. I'm sure if he gets playing he can return to his form of old.
I think many people rightly just hate him after what he did in the WC2002 in the first match against Turkey. He was not good enough for Milan, went back to Brazil and after two moths everybody at Cruzeiro hated him, too. He should retire, that would be the best because i am 100% sure that the same like at milan and cruzeiro will happen at his next club (probably bolton).
Makalele's Monaco dive was just as blatant as Rivaldo's and everyone has basically forgotten that. I don't think its very fair to hold that against Rivaldo in particular if we just forget other absurd dives. The Turk deserved a red card for what he did. Rivaldo deserved a yellow. Life goes on. If you remember from the WC. Rivaldo was everywhere. Playing defense, working his butt of in the m/f, unleashing unbelievable crossfield passes..crosses with ease and regularity, making fabulous runs to give the Ronnies space. I have rewatched every Brazil 2002 game at least twice and EVERY freekick he took was on the box and gave the gk fits.Yes, Ronaldinho Gaucho was the revelation of WC 2002, but IMO, Rivaldo was the best player. Dark Savante hit it on the spot, Rivaldo was never a fast player...so you really don't have to worry about a loss of pace rendering him ineffective. His left foot is as potent as ever. He gives you an aerial presence as well..not to mention stunning overhead kicks . While I don't think he would fit in to well at Manchester United, I don't see why a Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, maybe even Barcelona could not sign him again. He is lethal dead-ball hitter, immensely skilled. Heck, I would sign him in a second.
Bullcrap Rivaldo was never a fast player. Perhaps he wasn't super speedy, but when he got those long legs going he could keep distance between him and his markers. In my opinion, the man is done. Brilliant talent, but he's gotten old and lost his competitive edge. He could perhaps have a few years left in him if he weren't a greedy bastard. I say this based on what I've read about his wage demands. Thats why he left Barcelona in the first place, why he couldn't find a club after Milan for so long, and why he won't find a club outside of Qatar now.
Does he have an attitude problem then? cos I haven't heard anything about it.. Is this your assumption or is this based on information you have recieved via the media?
Well this is what I'm wondering about myself. He can for damn sure play superb football with Gaucho and he knows the deal in all regards when playing for a big team.
And this all has nothing to do with your apparent anger at his stint in your clubs colours? The management at Milan forced the guy out.. he was never going to do anything there.. live and let live... Rivaldo was never ever fast enough to escape any defender with an ounce of speed..he has always been a consistent and steady middle distance runner and that has not changed. Don't you think a player who was deemed good enough to be the World Player of the Year is right to expect party with all the other megastars in world football? that's all he's ever asked for, but his talent and sheer class has always been undermined, he had every right to ask for wages to meet with the performances he gave to Barca... they had a lot to be grateful to him for....
Nah. I felt sorry for him and was really pissed at Ancellotti for not giving him the chance his reputation deserved. But then I thought about it, and realized thats not how soccer works. After he left Milan I was excited that he went back to Brazil. It took him forever to find a club. Finally, I thought, this guy will play and wow the crowds again with another one of my favorite Brazilians Alex. But what happens? He isn't fit enough or .... I don't know. His wage demands have priced him out of everyones market. Thats all.
fair enough, but you have to remember that in Brazil Rivaldo has never been liked, in fact of all the countries on earth it's in his homeland where he has the least love so maybe going back there was a bad idea in the first place? It's not neccesarily the money that caused the problems.. cos there is no way he was getting anything insane in Brazil, wage wise.
It seems like he is being prostituted around any club in Europe and gonna be taken by the highest bidder.. Celtic will pay him insane wages... but I just wonder why none of the top teams in the big 3 leagues have or will come in for him?
Probably because he's a cheating SOB. I'm sorry but, after he faked that injury against Turkey in the 2002 World Cup I've lost a lot of respect for him. It just pisses me off that a player as skillful as he is disrespects the game with his feigning injury. I hope that teams think twice before signing him. Players that simulate injury should be ostracized from the game(are you listening Amado Guevara?).
obviously i don't know him personally but everything i see about him in the last two years has been negative from milan to cruzeiro
No. I understand that players will cheat a little. That they will fall down a little easier around the penalty area. I just hated when Rivaldo grabbed his face when the Turkish player kicked the ball at his knee's. That was disgraceful. And when Amado Guevara of the Metrostars fell to the ground writhing in pain when someone popped him with a towel in the stomach. Have some honour people. Act like men and keep that acting for the Honduran league. I think that kind of behavior should be stamped out of the game. Players that fake injuries should be ostracized by their teammates and by their league.
See, now you explained yourself better. But rather than ban players for that, all acting should be punished. Ideally leagues could look at all games and issue fines and suspensions after the game for stuff like that, not just for the more obvious and despicable ones like Rivaldo's.
Maybe after the contract he signs right now expires, Rivaldo will head to retire in MLS, and end up a Stoitchkov style player... I wouldn't mind.
