This has long intrigued me, but I could find no answer anywhere. Why is Slovenia wearing green, instead of its national colors?

    1) What is the tradition behind green and white kits, if there is any?
    2) It seems that the colors are acrually green, white and blue but I have never seen blue in their kits. Why?
    3) Are there any other Slovenian national teams that wear green, white and blue, or is this a purely football thing? I know their hockey team wears the colors of the flag, but what about basketball, handball, field hockey, rugby, volleyball and such?

Tis the colour of the mountains of Slovenija!

The Handball and Basketball team wear green as well I believe.

Milos is probably right, its probably a means to not be like Serbia or Croatia. Green probably seems the only rational colour to choose.

    Chesco United repped this.

Yet there is also blue in the color scheme, never used in the kit.
And the hockey team wears the national flag colors:

Is there more to it than the mere desire to be different?

I think when they became independent and starting playing internationals they didn't want to wear the same colours as Yugoslavia.

don't know about their hockey team.

I'ts not just them want to be different.
If you look at their city's and region's flags, most of them are green. Besides, the symbol of Slovenian capitol, Ljubljana, is green dragon, and it is now maybe a symbol of all Slovenia, because they call themselves "Zmajceki" or "Dragons"...

    Ganu says:

The colour comes from the House of Orange-Nassau, an aristocratic family that is often assocaited with the founding of a independent Dutch state and to which the current Dutch royal family are a part of. Orange was of course the colour of their household, and is hence the colour of the royal family.

Willem II, a former King of the Netherlands and member of the House of Oranje-Nissau is named after a Dutch football club in Tilburg, where his army bases were located whilst he was a commander of the Dutch Army during the Belgian uprising in the 19th century.

Alas they do not wear orange, but the colours of the Dutch flag.

    Strange non?

slovenias jerseys are green because that is the colour of the mountains

jerseys have a little more to them then just flag colours
italys jerseys are blue hence "azzuri"
    hollands jerseys are orange

There are a few reasons for that:
    - Slovenia is one of the most forested countries in Europe:
    https://gabrielhemery.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/forest_cover_europe_20101.jpg
    - The linden leaf is symbol of Slovenia: http://www.rtvslo.si/news-in-english/how-a-tree-became-a-slovenian-symbol/356123
    - Slogan of Slovenian Tourist Board is "Slovenia - Green. Active. Healthy." http://www.slovenia-convention.com/slovenia-green-active-healthy-i-feel-25/
    - Logo of Slovenian football association is green: http://www.nzs.si/Img/Predstavitev/CGP/NZS_osnovni_pokoncni_color-01.png
    - to differentiate from other countries (as already mentioned above) is also a reason - from ex-Yu countries, but especially from Slovakia (almost identical name and flag)
    - ... and so on

The mountain on jersey is Triglav (simply translates as Three-head) - highest Slovenian mountain and also one of the national symbols (could be found in Slovenia's coat of arms as well): http://www.hervardi.com/images/triglav001.jpg
