I just thought i'd get to know everyone here cuz im new. So why do you guys like roma? Who would be on your dream team of Roma players? (past present)
1.) Because I am of Roman heritage. 2.) Tancredi Oddi Righetti Samuel Nela Ancelotti Falcao Giannini Conti Totti Pruzzo
Ho, I'm new too...so indulge you. 1. Um, I actually loathed Roma for quite some time. I started as a pseudo Liverpool supporter...and just in recent memory, the two sides have met a few times on the European stage with the Merseyside team taking the majority of the points. So ja. But I suppose destiny would turn me towards the light (though I still am a Reds fan). Um, got to visit Rome briefly this past spring...bought a scarf as a momento for sure...unknowingly walked into a cafe with a few of the staff being die hard Lazio supporters...after chewing me out in Italian...one graciously fulfilled my order only after writing 'LAZIO' in the cream of my cappucino. But aye, my loyalties truly shifted when the Roman side came to Pittsburgh to play the blue kits from England. The showing by the team wasn't good...but the day before I met F Totti on the streets of PIttsburgh (actually twice)...so that was...quite amazing. Fueled by that, my cousin and I donned togas at the game and stood behind our homemade italian flag which was inscribed 'VENIMUS VIDIMUS VICIMUS. So ya, the whole experience was a hoot. Thas what got me started...and here I am gradually getting sucked into the capital side. 2. Honestly I'm so new to the side that I can't name past players for the Roman side. so ya...CARLO ZOTTI ROCKS...he acknowledged my cousin and I for our voices for the ROMA game in Pittsburgh...so ja. Honestly I can't list any past greats without sounding like the poser that I may be Anywho...um yeah, HAVE A LOVELY DAY an such. Ciao. DPW
Ha, well it was interesting...he and the trainer (I believe the two are good pals...don't have a name) were wandering around town. I was stunned to see him walking around...so I kinda followed him a bit...and I think he saw me from afar and was wondering how I was gonna react...as I was wearing my L'pool jersey and this was relatively soon after the spitting incident. But I went up and got his attention...shook his hand and all. No words really were exchanged...I don't think he knows English. Then...I realized...quite stupid for me not to get an autograph...so I went back to the hotel where they came from and waited for them to return...had the pen and paper and he signed...again no words really exchanged...I said 'Grazie'...and we both smiled. So no, I don't think he knows English. Others were out and about...but this was before I knew their names and such. I saw Delvecchio out...and I sat and watched Dellas being interviewed on Italian tv in some small park...again this was shortly after his EURO 04 success. BUt as I belabor every subject...no I don't believe he speaks English...and he was accomodating to me...perhaps because he saw my ROMA scarf and was quite unused to the lack of public attention. But aye, he was quite receptive...tell ya the truth, if he wasn't, my hatred for the team would not have been reversed, only strengthened. But aye. I type too much. Hope all is well Ciao DPW
I remember watching Italy playing when I was younger. I don't remember who or anything, but they were about to take a free kick and I remember the announcer talking about Roma. Two players, no doubt Totti was one of them, were standing over the ball and talking. I was fascinated and wanted to learn more about them. I don't like anyone else in Italy except Roma. I know it's a wierd story, but I was hooked after that.
Grazie! I didn't know where to put Mazzetti, Di Bartolomei or Amadeo Amadei with the others in the line up. Liedholm would have to be the coach ahead of Capello and Il Sor Carletto.
Di Bartolomei is definitely another one! Although with the lineup above, it's hard to find room even for him. Who could ever forget his blistering free kicks? As kids we used to have a rule when we played..."no Di Bartolomei shots!" Sadly, he committed suicide a couple of years ago.
I lived in Rome for two years. Prior to that I didn't know ANYTHING about soccer/calcio. I was and still am a huge baseball fan. When I was there Roma and Lazio were both good, and I found myself cheering for Roma. They won the scudetto when I was there and I was hooked. My first Roma game was a CL game Roma-Galatasaray (the one where there were all those fights afterwards) it was great. since I too am relatively new to the giallorossi I'll have to pick the Scudetto-winning team as my all-time team haha... I still sing "L'inno della Roma" by Antonello Vinditti (right?) all the time, so much that my friends can sing along with some parts even though they don't speak Italian (or Romanacc').
I liked Roma for quite a few years now. I'm not old enough to see the many great stars that Roma had but have heard about him and have seen old hightlight reals. I like Roma and started to follow them when my father said he played for the Roma jr's when he grew up in Roma around 50 years ago. I also like Roma because it is the capital city and has so much rich history it's hard for any other city/team to compare to them. Lastly i like Roma for thier colors yeah that may sound a bit corny but it's the truth my favorite colors when i was a kid was Orange/Maroon and would you take a look at that my favorite team has those colors. I love those colors so much i'm thinking about painting my Alfa Romeo GTV racecar those colors.
prego. I am not a roma fan as I can only be fan of my Cagliari but I always liked Roma...
That is a canzone bellissima but not the one I was thinking of. Maybe you knew that. Here's mine: Roma Roma Roma core de 'sta citta' unico grande amore de tant e tanta gente che fai sospira' Roma Roma Roma lassasce canta' da sta voce nasce un coro son cento mila voci che hai fatto innamora' Roma Roma bella t'ho dipinta io gialla com'er sole rossa com'er core mio Roma Roma mia nun te fa'ncanta' tu sei nata grande e grande hai da resta' Roma Roma Roma core de 'sta citta' unico grande amore de tant e tanta gente che hai fatto innamora' I love the Roman dialect (I am a student of the Italian language by the way) and this song is freaking sweet, especially when it goes up a step for the last verse.
^^Does anyone have any online audio of this chant? I heard it during many games in Rome and wanted someone here to hear it. Anyway, my favorite team is AS Roma because my family has supported them ever since I can remember. I was born here in Milwaukee, WI USA as a product from a father from Bergamo and a mother from Florencia. For some reason my family followed Roma dating back to pre-WW2. When I was old enough to understand and enjoy my journies back to Italy I went to the games whenever we were in Roma. I must say that even though my roots are from much more northern cities, Roma is my favorite place on earth. Now that I am older and able to go to Italy on my own whenever I can, I make vacations out of the Lazio - Roma derbies. I was there for one in 2001 and I was there for one in 2003, however, I missed the infamous one in March of 2004, as I was in Italy at the time, but enjoying myself in Venezia (Thank God BTW - because even Venice seemed unsafe after that fiasco). Now that I am getting married, I doubt that I will be able to return for a another couple of years. So until then I will look to my fellow USA-Roma fans here to share the passion. Cheers!
I like Roma cause of all the drama, I like them cause of the ups and downs, I like them cause of the exciting game they provide
Hi Guys- I am new to the Roma board. I am usually hanging around the Real Madrid board, mostly reading. But Roma is my favorite Italian team and 2nd favorite Football team. I also agree with Shawshank. I love Roma for the Drama, the Ups and Downs, and the fabulous Francesco Totti and Panucci. I love the my Diva team. I also have always loved the Italian national team watching them in the various world cups and the players from Roma were always wonderful. Lastly I love Italy and the city of Rome. It is a shame that we do not get to see more of Serie A games in the US on Direct TV. It is truly hard to be a Roma fan, but I will not stop! Ciao bellas Elisa
its reversed for me.. i got into roma from living in italy/rome.. then just let nature take its course~~ Arsenal is really the only team I support as thats the only games I go too, so i wouldnt call myself a Roma supporter so much.. but i hope they win Serie A no doubt!
The Eternal City -- Sempre Roma! The center of the greatest empire the world has ever known. The history, passion and glory of Rome's past and present is like a magnet to anyone who appreciates Western culture. I still have family living just east of the city which means I had no choice in the matter. (Lazio never was, nor ever will be an option ).
